Post subject:  Exhaust manifold studs!

I found out this week that the haynes book misses out something quite important.....

The studs on the head are the stretch type. When you torque it up they stretch, so you cant reuse them!. However haynes does not mention this, so one assumes you can (and I tryed).. New ones cost ~ £20 including new nuts.

If you try to use them, they will stretch/snap about 10mm from the head, which is the weakest point. Atleast that gives something to grip onto though. I got the snapped one out, although one that did not snap is just stuck with the torx tip compleatly rounded..

After taking some out, we found they are all about 2-4mm longer than the new ones.
We had a close up look at them, and they are forged rather than machined, while the thread is rolled, instead of cut, which is also streched.

Just thought it was strange that this was not mentioned anywhere...
