Just a quick guide on how to remove the torque limiter on all IB5 gearbox, not many people know about:
All IB5 gearboxes are fitted with a torque limited as part of the speed sensor control. Ford uses this to reduce power in 1st gear to help with traction and to reduce strain on the drive shafts. Most people will not notice this power loss but I can assure you, once it is removed you will be very happy with the acceleration gain in 1st gear.
The torque limiter needs to be switched such that it is only disabled in 1st gear. This is because some of the engine information is disabled such as speed sensor, anti stall and more importantly the speedometer. If the limiter is permanently disabled I.E. you cut the cable, the car will not run correctly.
To remove the limiter simply locate the speed sensor which is found on top of the gearbox as you look down through the right hand engine mount and the engine. The cable you are looking for is brown and black. Look carefully as 1 other cable is pure black (earth). Once this cable is found it needs to be cut and fitted with a switch. Obviously now you can use some cable feeding it into the car to try out. Use a simple 2 pole switch available from Halfords ect. Try not to use a huge reel of cable as this will affect the circuit, short as possible is better. Once the switch is fitted take her for a spin and see the difference.
The first way to tell whether it is working correctly is the speedometer will not work in 1st gear with the limiter switched off. Try switching it on and see if the speedometer comes back. After testing this pull away using full throttle in 1st gear obviously and you should notice the dramatic difference in the acceleration. If no difference is felt make sure the limiter is switched off. Again the speedometer will not work when the limiter is off.
IMPORTANT!
Make sure the limiter is back on whilst in other gears as the car will not run correctly and you will have no speedometer. Once you have wired this into the car you can use your extensive DIY skills and design a micro switch assembly in your gear gator housing such that the switching is done automatically.
Here is a link to my car demonstrating the limiter removed:

Hope all goes well, remember it can be done on any IB5 gearbox, Mondeo, Puma, Fiesta, KA
