19th august is your best bet, the old balloon festival is on, "The Northampton Balloon Festival 2006, organised by Northampton Borough Council in partnership with Northampton Chronicle & Echo, BBC Radio Northampton, Northants 96 FM and Classic Gold, will this year be celebrating 16 years of bringing the excitement of ballooning and entertainment to Northampton. To celebrate 16 years of flight this year's festival will be opening on Friday 18 August with the festival running through to Sunday 20 August 2006 on the Racecourse in Northampton. The Northampton Balloon Festival is sure to be one of the most memorable events in the town attracting 250,000 visitors over the weekend. This FREE event offers a wide range of attractions for all the family. This family festival again will be celebrating the unique and exciting experience of ballooning including balloon tethering, inflation races throughout the day, the fantastic massed ascent balloon races each morning and evening concluding with the evening balloon glows. The action packed family festival will consist of stage entertainment, street performances, road-shows, trade stands, a spectacular funfair and evening fireworks displays. "
