Post subject: | 2.0L / Rs turbo/ conversion into a 1.6si????? |
hi all, i have myself a 1.6si and ive done a few engine tihngs to improve performance such as K&N induction, denso plugs, fse boost valve etc but i really need to be thinking about an engine transplant, now please dont laugh as i dont really know much about engines and therfore i would really appreciate some help, ANY help ![]() ![]() ![]() now them, im 17 years old, just pased my test and my insurance is at 780 quid which isnt too bad, so... 1: what is the best choice of engine to put into my fezzy?? i know i can put a 2.0L zetec mondeo lump in there, what about an escort/fiesta rsturbo engine?? if thats possible??? or please tell me any other possible enginges 2: what is the performance like on a 2.0L zetec and any other possible engine conversions? ie. top speed/ 0-60?? 3: Insurance!!! being only 17 i dont want something that will kill me with insurance so which is best for insurance out of the available options? 4: price? i am looking to spend No more than ?2500 on this, actually i was hoping for around a grand but ?2500 only if it really appeals to me. now theres no way i can do this myself so could anyone give me a few rough ideas on prices and who can do engine transplants? i know it sounds lazy but i just want to be able to take my car somewhere and for them to be able to do everything i.e. get the best possible engine of my choice with good milage, and provide all of the neccesary parts needed and of course to fit it and then i dunno a few days later or whatever i can go and pick it up and be happy forever. please any help will be much appreciated, if you dont want to give out info on the forum please pm me or email me at [email protected] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Riiiiiiight. Your 2ltr zetec engine is going to be the best bet. It will cost you around the ?600 mark to get a conversion done. MMoGenius on fiestaturbo.com does the conversion, as does XFactor (advertised on this site). It's pretty much a straight swap for a 1.6 Si, uses same mounts, whereas if you were to go with a rst engine, alot more work to get it to fit would be needed. Power wise, you're looking at roughly the same from an rst and a 2ltr zetec as standard. But, the zetec wont suffer from turbo lag, and is one hell of a strong engine. But with the rst, you can do alot more mods to the engine and get alot more power form it. Plus it's a turbo ![]() ![]() Alot to think about, plus the insurance will go up more with an rst engine in. Top speeds of the engines depends on a lot of other factors too. Lets say that you put in a 2ltr. It will be kinda restricted to a top speed because of the Si gearbox, but it will be much better acceleration from the start (I know I'd prefer acceleration over top speed). So then you gotta start thinkin about gearboxes too. Hmm, sorry for the inconsistent rambling, my writing skills seem to have degraded tonight ![]() Hope this helps. Welcome to the site aswell ![]() |

I'd go for the 2.0L option everytime. Although i love the FRST engine, its unreliable, and more expensive to maintain, then a 2.0L zetec would be. You would get better MPG, tons more acceleration over your old 1.6 and insurance will be loads better on a 2.0L. At 17 years of age, your gonna have problems finding an insurance company that will even give you a quote on a RST engine conversion Mod. |

yea ill have to go for the 2.0L option, does your insurance serioulsy go up by 650 quid for the 2.0l engine? i really wont be able to afford that, 350 quid would ave been alrite, please try and let me know know how much extra your paying, i also realised ill have to buy uprated brakes and suspension so does anybody know the an approximate price for the whole lot: engine conversion+ fitting, brakes etc???any help will be appreciated cheers |
