Post subject:  Custom rear splitter for Si bumper
Ive noticed that theres no add-on mods for the standard si rear bumper. Everyones going for the MK4 rear and adding splitters to them you can get em for the FRST\XR2i rear bumpers but not for the si, so decided to make my own. I think the si rear bumper is perfect, the problem is that once youve added sideskirts and front splitters the rear doesnt come down enough to line up with the rest of the kit. Already got a template made out of MDF and got a fibreglass kit off ebay, just need to mould it around my template, and do some filling and meshing, blending to the original Si rear and then done to the sprayers for a professional paint job, once ive got one and fitted i'll post some pics up on the forum (not doing it yet incase someone nicks my idea and gets it all done before i do), if anybodys interested in the final product i could get a company to repro to order. Keep you updated on this though !

should be interesting, i know what you mean about the back sitting high, and although they do em for the XR/RS they look shit nothing for the rears of anymk3 looks great as an add on, hope you get something that looks good mate.

one word of caution some bodyshops get very picky if you have done all the prepwork and bodywork yourself as if the paint doesn't come out right you'd blame them but its all down to the prep work, might just be worth getting the spliter made and tgiving it like that to the bodyshop for finishing.

The splitter has not been taken from any other motor or been modded to fit. The splitter iam doing has been created from scratch, making a design template then using fibreglass to remould around the template. Its not too fancy with loads of gaps filled with mesh. Its just a simple design that keeps in line with the original SI design, But the idea is to just bring the rear further to the ground to give it a lower effect at the rear and so that from a side profile of the car the front splitter, skirts, and rear bumper are all at the same level. the overall effect should be the original Si rear that comes further down another 2\3 inches. Might also cut a recess in the bumper to fit a square number plate so that i can have a flush tailgate. It will look different to the typical MK4 rear designed to take the usual long style number plate. The Numberplate light will have to be moved from the top of the bumper and be put into the new recess, than the top where the light onces sat will have to be filled.
