Can anyone shed a little light on it, read about it a little but dont quite know what it is or does. I know it can be internal/external etc, and how would i know what was what? james.. |

Electronic Distribution Ignition System. Instead of using a mechanical distributor to send the pulse to the spark plug, the system is electronically controlled by the ECU. Basically it means the system is more reliable as there's no moving parts to wear and it's more accurate than a mechanical distributor. The internal/external just denotes whether the EDIS module is within the confines of the ECU (under the dash) or on the bulkhead in (on a Fiesta) its own black box. |

This has external EDIS. Come out of the EDIS module and goes to various places including the coil pack. You Si will have internal EDIS as there is no module on the bulkhead. Par Example: 
As for changing from internal to external I would imagine you'd need to perhaps splice into the loom or just change the engine loom to the external one. JD Fiestas the bufty when it comes to this kinda shizzle. Someone else switched to external too using a 1.8. |
