Erst box is best as it has an lsd. Would of thought you need more than £600 to achieve 170bhp id rather buy and fit an st170 lump which is basically a black top zetec. |

r1 carbs, bogg bros inlet, mega squirt, series 1 rst box with lsd fitted, should see aound 150-160bhp quite easily with that setup properly and could do it for less that £600 if you spend wisely and do the work yourself |

if you go for carbs you need to get megajolt ignition management, thats a cheaper alternative, and go for an ib5 box from an escort mk6 etc as the starter motor is at the back so you can fit a four branch manifold and a more free flow exhaust system with a decat, i advise putting a 2.5 inch diameter system exhaust on as that will improve aid for the new inlet. |

if your getting R1 carbs, you'll need to have different jets fitted, either drill them out to 0.6mm or buy proper 0.6mm jets, as the hole is tapered, and it using megasquirt, get the later type of carbs from 2000-2003 with the inbuilt tps sensor |
