Do it yourself, its not hard. Get yourself some tools, hire an engine crane for the weekend and crack on. Plenty of threads on the forum showing how to do it ![]() |

It is!! Remove wiring, remove pipes, Get car on stands with no front wheels and arch liner on drivers side, get the crane holding the engine, start removing some bolts. lower engine, lift car over engine, drag it out. ![]() |

I was thinking about taking it to a garage somewhere but i can imagine it costing loads!! Plus if somethings not right like ive got the wrongs parts, could end up getting worse lol! I do have the space to do it and have use of an engine hoist and could prolly get tools and axle stands etc! Ive got a silvertop engine, RS1800 gear box and just looking for an ECU which ive discovered i need a DESK DEWY OR DEEP one? One place i started emailing about getting the conversion done said that i would need a different inlet manifold? I dont really know this sort of stuff so thats the things thats putting me off lol. |

thats the one mate. not sure on mani but yeah they are correct i think, but it can be done on the standard mani, not sure, someone will clear it up for us lol! you just got to think on average, a mechanic will charge around £25.00 per hour for labour. i cant imagine them rushing it so it will add up. id go for it mate, get a couple of mates who know what they're doing like. |

A garage would charge aleast £40 an hour labour plus vat, then consumables like fluids clips ect, I'd say give it a go yourself, have the car off the road for a few days, a few mates, haynes manuel and the numerous amount of conversion guides avaible on the net, it's only nuts and bolts at the end of the day |

iv just bought a 2litre zetec, ecu and loom from a mondeo for £220 and got a quote of around 450 to do the swap at the garage around the corner, so total i would say it will cost £700. I would like to have a go at the conversion myself to hopefully bring the cost down to around £300 or less but dont think i am confident enough to complete it myself (never done anything like this before). Has anyone else done this conversion with limited mechanical experience? and how did it go? |
