i asked this a while ago, but can neither remember or find the thread. so here it goes again...

several people say you can't 2.0l the 1.4, only the 1.6, and others say vice versa.

can anyone clear this up for me as i want to know if i can do it in the future?

thanks, ben

Its not you can't its just more work.

With the 1.6 you basically replace the block and head with 2.0 items and off you go.

With the 1.4 you need to change the engine loom and mounts as well as sourcing most of the aux parts off a zetec.

hmm yes, that rings bells! wouldn't want to sell the 1.4 as it's my run around. so i could keep that, by a 1.6, get the shell near perfect and do the conversion on that?

what do people think? would be much easier and would mean i could still drive? if anything, i could by a 1.6 whenever i have the money, buy all the parts, build it then when im ready, insure and tax it?

getting me rather excited now ;)

Does sound like good plan.

Out of interest an RST engine would go in the 1.4 without to many issues.

Zetec imo is a more reliable route. Does sound like a good idea, buy tiababys if your willing to make the trip.

I did read up :P Fair enough if you have the space for it, its just whether you'd actually ever be able to throw the money at it with running the other car etc. be a nice money pit for you. you'll never move out :P

yeye ;) well that's the thing. i do have some stuff to save for (level 3 at college for my course, insurance) and i will put money away for that. but i think once i have my car sorted, which is literally a few mechanical issues then it's sorted. then i cna think about getting a 1.6/shell and begin building it. i 100% know it will take my life over and ill just spend money on it, but if i dont have a deadline like most people do (such as getting it ready for a ford fair etc) i can just have breaks :p im kinda chatting shit now, but i also dont plan on moving out for a while ;)

remember chris, take things a step at a time! and it will be a god like motor. all about the perfection with this one pal.
