Hi there I recently got myself a 1.6 5dr si and I am looking to make some small performance mods I don't have a great deal of money but would like to see a see an improvement in the cars performance so my question is are there any cheap but effective mods I can make and how do I go about making them? Cheers, Nick |

There isn't really any such things as "cheap" mods, especially for perfomance of a 1.6 Your best bet is to put a 2.0 engine in it and thats the best way to get the most power to the least money. depending on the engine cost and your ability with a spanner it could cost you quite a small amount. but apart from the usual cheap breathing mods which wont do much for performance, your looking at wasting lots of money on cams etc. which is good if you have a lot of money to blow but you dont. |

Won't I have to change alot of other parts if I drop a new lump in? |

Nope as everything that needs changing will come off your current 1.6 si and bolt up to the 2.0 lump. although its reccomended to buy a new parts brand new |

theres a thread on here, its the easiest conversion for the car and as I say, the cheapest way to gain performance, bar that just strip it out, free and will feel a bit quicker ![]() |

Power ftw! Get it serviced if it hasnt been done in a while and give the maf sensor a clean so you can be sure its running adwel as it can then get a nice good quality air filter on there then a free flow exhaust so everthing is breathing and running well then as said the only thing worth doing after that is 2.0l! As for brakes st150 calipers bolt straight on and for suspension the worlds your oister but the si definatly needs lowering abit as its too high standard. |

When I had my Si I done all the brakes, new front calipers and pads, new rear shoes, new rear cylinders and complete flush of the brake fluid and bled them all again. And I have to say they were absolutely spot on. Better than my Pulsar for stopping!! I don't see the need for all these brake mods with the power and weight of the FSi after seeing how good mine were. |

imo the best performance gain you can get is to strip your car out of the interior, mainly the rear seats and rear seat belts, if you dont plan to have passengers that is ![]() best of all its free ![]() ![]() |
