Although I remember my dad saying car alarms aren't easy to fit and he had to go on a course for a weekend as a mecahnic to learn how to fit them

Yeah it's probs best to get one fitted from a car auto shop... not a big one like halfrauds because they will charge through the teeth, but a little shop that knows what they are doing.
My mate has a reconised cat-1 alarm and immobiliser with total closure, fitted, for £250. Try the yellow pages :)
