So, here's an interesting question. Obviously when you stick a ridiculously large exhaust on a car you get back pressure is it? And that is bad for your engine for some reason (read this a long tome ago) hence why standard exhausts are so small. So what's the "best" size. I'm sure standard is, but when do you start getting the back pressure 2" 3" 4"?

You can get a loss of back pressure which is the problem. Not sure what the best option is, but I am sure magnex and such like got it right if you buy one. |

Ah right see I can't remember exactly what it was. Just remember it went back to the engine and damaged it. Didn't realise make made a difference I thought it was exit size. See my 4" was pretty loud. Did enjoy it but when I get the next car I was thinking 3" just wanted to know if it does more damage than good. Planning on a manifold all the way through |

As your engine pushes waste air out it causes pulses which force it down the the exhaust, if its too wide the pulses can be less effective and the gases can start moving sideways etc. Size of backbox won't make a huge difference, more the system which gets it there. |

Yeah that's it, so would it be the diameter of the centre pipe etc. Or is it just general how the exhaust is made? |

Oooh magnex are even more expensive than scorpion for a cat back. Quite a difficult decision. Obviously don't want a huge amount on it! You get what you pay for I guess. Ashleys are £180. Scorpions £280. Magnex £320. |

Ashleys are mild steel to will rust, you looked up mongoose? Keep an eye out for used stainless systems, they go for £100-150. |

Yeah, the stainless are scorpion so £200+ if there are used ones about when Im looking properly that would be cool. As I know scorpion, I would probably go for them although if your recommended mongoose I'll definately have a look now! |

second hand magnex go for around £80 mate so keep an eye out for those on ft, I just went to an exhaust place and they charged £25 to make it fit right!! |

why not go custom? sometimes they work out cheaper. for a peco backbox for mine it was £120 but i had a full stainless cat-back with a 3 inch tip for £180

i have a scorpion exhaust system you can have for £70 but problem is though there is one missing section of the exhaust but i can easily make up a section to accomodate it if you really want one. fits zetec equipped si's and xr2i's!! |

my magnex stainless exhaust was twin box 2" system, current one is single box 2.5". the 2.5" seems to rev free'er but looses torque in the mid range, so think you can go to big |

Sweet, I'm not looking to buy one right now, and I won't be getting an si, so won't be any good. Just been bugging me for a while and I fonnaly posted so I know how much I need when the time comes. Not gonna snap up the one on FT as if my plans change I'll be stuck with more fiesta stuff I don't need lol thinking of 3" as my old 4 was really loud at 70. So it'd be a little quoted but not too quiet but yeah. I was hoping to go S/S.

I have magnex on mine, and im sure theyve got it right. Quiet, but loud enough. (in fact i thought mine was quieter on idle and thats without a cat) Sounds good. Fits like a genuine ford part. Performance is difficult to tell but seems to be fine. |
