Ill start off by saying hello! My names Bill im from Maidstone, Kent. I'm 22 and ive just brought myself an L reg 1.6 5 door SI. Ive been driving 4 years and owned around 11 Fords (and nothing else!) so cut me and ill bleed blue. My last one was a 290bhp Focus ST so its fair to say im finding the fez a touch on the slow side ![]() Basicly what im planning on doing is building a budget track weapon and saxo/corsa killer! Im very knowegale on Anything with a blue oval on it and im pretty aware of what my choices are but i would like some advice from the real experts as my knoweldge is'nt at a 'practical' stage YET! I want to do the conversion myself im believe i am more the capable (with you lot for back up ![]() I had my heart set on doing the 2.0ltr then running it on bike throttle bodies however it seems to be alot of faffing about swapping bits over and although im capable ive never taken on a task quite this big! My other thought was to stick with the 1.8 lump and run that on bike throttle bodies as (correct me if im wrong) it should go straight in?! Obv id have to use the ECU from the donor car and im confident my car has ext PATS. Basicly i need to know it is worth the 'faffing' about for that extra tiny bit of horse power/tourque? and is there any other advice anyone can give me im all ears! (and yes i am aware a 5 door isnt the 'ideal' project but dare to be different eh?! Sorry about the essay!!! |

Well if your going to put a 1.8 in surely you may aswell go all the way and 2.0 it, if your going to get hold of an RS1800 engine then it would be a straight swap , but if your going get an 1800 out of say an escort your still going have to 'faf' around switching engine mounts, possibly inlet manifolds depending if its got an up and over inlet or not, theres more but what you planning to get the 1.8 out of? :O |

Well probably out of an escort as its going to be the easiest to source. your probably right, just going for the 2.0ltr would save me regretting not jus going for the biggest. |

Lol any ways plans sound good mate I'll look out for you as in only down the road in paddock wood I may be 2.0ing my xr2i in the next few weeks/days as soon as my gearbox let's go lol I'll let you know how hard it is |

welcome to fsi ![]() you are correct the 1.8 is a straight swap as you wont need to change anything on it at all ![]() but in all honesty the bit you need to swap from the 1.6 onto the 2.0 is very minimal and imo well worth that little bit of extra time and effort, iirc yall you need to swap is the alt/pas bracket, sump and oil pick up, put on a shorter oil filter, 1.6 cvh or R5GTT one, then awap your pas pump and alt over, while your at it replace the water pump for a 1.6/1.8 fiesta/escort item, new cambelt, put the belts and pulleys back on and your pretty much there ![]() have a read here :- viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4855&start=0 and here :- viewtopic.php?f=16&t=122&start=0 and if you ever get stuck just post up, we'd be happy to help try and solve your issue ![]() |

honustly mate, for the work you need to put the 2.0 its worth doing, you dont have to change much as mentioned, a 2.0 escort is pretty fun can only imagine a 2.0 fiesta being awesome lol. |

I have my friends 1.8 Zetec out of his gti escort, its a 130 spec engine with good history and low mileage so i think im going to use this for a bit more poke! i know the 2.0 is the norm however i think i will be able to have alot of fun with the 130 spec 1.8?! And not to mention i live in a block of flats so i literally need to pick it up and fit it all in like a couple of days, not really going to be able to get all the other bits done that need doing to the 2.0ltr before it goes in not to mention its more costly and long winded sourcing parts etc etc. I have a friend who is a ford tech who is willing to help me with it, can i just cinfirm that this is a straight swap i havent got to muck about like i would with the 2.0ltr? |

any one of the two engine your going to need to change a fee bits round on anyway. It is very straight foward and not much hassle. Good luck with it anyway. Keep us posted. |

you might need to swap the alt brackets over but thats about it i think, other than that its pretty much a drop out the 1.6 swap brakcet over drop in 1.8 ![]() that'll still be alot of fun in a fez ![]() keep the sump and pick up off your 1.6 engine tho and if you want too, buy a 2.0 later on then just bolt bits off the Si onto the 2.0 ready for when you want to change to a 2.0, if you want too that is ![]() |
