i know these are a big problem on si's. with the rusting especially. the rubbing on the tires which comes with it (edge of my tire is goudged to say the least). ive had a couple of other links not specific to this but people have said about bashing them and cutting them off all together. just wondering what everyone else does with them because i want rid of them before i lower it and get new rims!? thanks chaps. |

You can get a heat gun and a small rubber mallet and slowly bend the lip around. That is probably the easiest way if done right |

Haha i hope well, i just had my arches done about a year ago. So they are rust free! I'm gunna wait until i put my XR/RS skirts and arches on first i think. It does need to be done though! Because with 16" Mondy zetecs (R16 205 45) and lowered 35/40mm it's gunna scrape with a feather in the back! lol |

well good luck! haha, bet it looks tidy though ![]() atleast you have a legitimate reason for scraping. mine does with orig 14"s with bugger all in the back ![]() |

On my old 1.3, i didnt use a heat gun, just hit the inside of the lip around with a rubber mallet, paint didnt even crack ![]() |

Jack car up safely, Remove wheel, Take your grinder and cut the lip off a few mm at a time around the top of the lip, and the bumper part, and see if it rubs then. Stuff folding it, it'll only gather water and rust out anyway, so just cut the lip abit |

Post subject: | Re: rear arch lips! |
You could touch the cut edge up with abit of hammerite with a small brush to keep it from the elements yeah ![]() Its better than messing around bashing the arch lips on, can cause more issues |

Post subject: | Re: rear arch lips! |
bashing it with a hammer would be iffy, could cause the panel to ripple further up, and as paul said water can collect there, not good, just chop the fookers off, lol |

Post subject: | Re: rear arch lips! |
i didnt manage to ripple mine lol..no heat and a hide mallet when its nearly there...sikaflex the seam your bashing up..nice seal to stop the crap getting in..finish beating and use a brush with thinners to spread the excess that came out. ![]() i know paul went at his with a grinder. but we both covered up the butcherism with XR kits...and pauls was more butchered than mine lol |

ha! i dont want to risk the paint rippling at all, rather grind them down and as you said, whack an xr2i kit on. was my plan anyway. thanks for the advice though (Y) i let you know how it goes anyway as i should be doing it soon. |

If your going to be fitting skirts/arches anyway, you can cut not just the lip off, but go a few mm above the arch, allows for bigger wheels with a good drop ![]() |

I fitted 16's with 45 profile tyres with a 60mm all round drop perfectly fine. I also fitted 16's with a 40 profile with 205 width tyre on a Sierra fitment wide as fook set of wheels, on a 80mm rear 70mm front drop, and managed to pull that off |

Post subject: | Re: rear arch lips! |
The kit only fell off the RS due to mudflaps The kit only fell off the pickup because 1) I cut too much off 2) It was actually the metal that came off ![]() |
