Post subject:  Problem Lowering Fiesta Si

Hello All,

I am new here having just bought my first Fiesta.

I have bought a 1995 1.6 Si and am trying to lower it.

I bought some springs off ebay and having taken a front strut off my car, they don't look the same.

Now I appreciate the lowering springs will be a bit different, the coil of original springs tapers in (gets narrower) towards the base of the shock and seems to be pressed into the shock with some lugs. I can't get the spring loose even using spring compressors.

The new springs I have and the same diameter all the way down.

Could it be that I have got the wrong springs for my car?

Will I need to replace the shocks aswell as the original springs seem attached or can I just "persuade" them out?

Many Thanks

T

welcome to fsi

any chance you can get some pic's of what you mean? as i cant quite visualise it :red:

now i'm not the best regarding knowledge, so not sure if there a difference but did you get mk3 or 3.5 springs?

i know there's a difference in the shocks themselves but not sure if its goes as far as the springs as well

hopefully someone else with more knowledge can help you out here

as you probably know theres two different mk3's theres the actual mk3 which is pre 1995 and then the mk3.5 which is 1995 onwards, they have two different size hubs but the springs are still the same i have the poverty spec one not the si, im not sure if the si has different or "sportier" shocks but mine were simple to do, just compress the spring and undo the top and bobs your uncle its apart, can you get a pic of these lugs?

I will try to find a pic of what I mean, I've put it all back together now but ill see if i can find a pic online somewhere. Failing that I'm sure it will be in bits again before too long

Right, looking at the STX website it looks like there are 2 different types of srping available. 1 suits all bar ABS/van/diesel. The other is specifically for 1.6Si/Turbo/RS1800

This pic is what i mean, the last coil is narrower on my shocks and is seated inside some metal lugs.

The normal fiesta springs are the same diameter on all the coils and wont fit into my shocks.

I think, to sum up, I have been a muppet and bought the wrong springs.

However, if anyone wants some normal fiesta mk3 -40mm springs for £40 (They are used, i bought them s/h and the rears come with standard shocks attached) send me a message! :halo:

Yeah think I have....ah well.

It can wait till the new year I'm thinking I might do the dampers at the same time, geta proper kit rather than just the springs.

in the gmax pic above they look right the 2 to the left are the rear springs and the other 2 the fronts the fronts sit upside down as in the pic or they wont fit...the top is the bottom of the spring if that makes sence going by the picture
