In all honesty its not really spending much on a 1.1 engine, You could take the airbox off a 1.3 with an uprated panel filter will free up the revs. As mentioned a full oil change and new plugs will help it, maybe a bit of redex in the carb too. |

you can bolt on WEBER IBF CARB i did that on my mk2 made it a bit quicker not sure what carb a mk3 has on as standard tho |

my first car was a 1.1 but i put a 1.3 engine in it was straight swap took a couple of hours and with a good service went really well, sort out the tappits with a k+n carb filter with a small oil breather would be spot on, only thing is if the engine has back presure oil will pour out of the oil breather and it will run dry causing what happened to mine a masive bang and a fire on the side of the m6! lol
