Hi, i am in the means of strippping my car and am looking into fitting a Sparco steering wheels and with the air bag i need some advice.
- When i buy a boss kit which year, model will i need? (im guessing there isnt one specified for the Si as it has air bag)
- Is it just a case of taking the old one off and then the boss goes on the normal bolt holes or is there more work with it having the air bag?
- Iv also heard that when you change them to aftermarket you lose your steering lock & "auto indicator canel"? (you have to flick stalk by hand as it wont cancel itself)... is there any other draw backs with fitting one??
thanks hope for some advice

okay first off the bat. the hex has been the same size for years. so thats not the issue. the issue is the steering lock. earlier fiestas ran a slightly different size tooth for the lock. if you speak to your supplier they will most likely be able to work out which one you need (mk4 i suspect as the late mk3s were a bit of a mix and match). fitting an aftermarket with the correct boss means you will retain your steering lock and your self cancel indicators.

as for taking the airbag off. follow the procedure in the haynes manual do as it says. leave the power disconnected for at least 10 mins. if your not confident dont play with it. it is an explosive device after all and if it goes off while your trying to take it off its not the kind of thing youll be laughing about with your mates later. broken necks busted ribs and severe facial damage are all possible outcomes. thats not to say dont do it just make yourself aware of what your dealing with and dont prat about with it. no way round taking it off it has to come off to get to the centre bolt for the original steering wheel, which your boss kit will then replace.

okay thats the serious bit over. now go have some fun ;)
