i am wondering because of the ID of the maf (zetec 1.6)eingne weather its better with or with out in reguards to preformance ? |

but keep the maf. Induction kit or panel filter will help and a decent exhaust but the 1.6 is an untuneable engine as stated before  best off whacking a 2.0 in there

right i have cleaned this thread, i'm slowly getting sick of seeing snide and sarcastic replies to people asking for help and advice! if you dont have anything constrcutive or helpful to add to a topic DONT reply! simple no?  if i see it again the person involved will be getting a warning or better yet a ban

The engine uses 3 sensors to know what's going on, lambda, throttle position and the maf. If you unplug the maf it will usually run off the other 2 sensors and make a best guess at what air is coming in. With it you should be the most form your engine. If you are having problems with the maf fitted then it is probably faulty or needs a clean. As mentioned its not economical to tune the 1.6 zetec, mainly due to the head/valves restricting things. You can add an exhaust and air filter but the gains won't be much, with that if you plan to drop a 2.0 later then you could still use them. |

I had problems with my MAF before Ford Fair it wouldn't rev over 4500rpm. I disconnected it for the track time and it reved fine, however it was very thirsty in a 15 minute session I used nearly 1/4 of a tank (I usually get through 1/2 a tank for a whole track day) I found when I dismantled it the thin wires inside were covered in muck, I cleaned them and performance was restored. So in summary, I'd keep it plugged in for fuel economy and if working correctly it shouldn't restrict the engine performance. |

when i unplug my maf its goes quite a bit better lol but runs rich and idles a bit rough. |
