For a decent remapping session I'd expect to pay around £500. And that's if your standard one can be remapped. I'm unsure with Ford stuff tbh.

Im struggling to find information on this i've looked through a few previous posts and some are sheer comedy... i'm wanting some information on whats involved in remaping the standard ford ecu for a 1600 zetec. Mostly for information sake with a view of contemplating it. Its something i've never really considered assuming i would just buy Megasquirt/Omex. But i realised today when surfing ebay that there is probably no point in on my engine splashing out a fortune of either of them. Would remaping the standard ecu provide comparable performance to that of an aftermarket ecu? Are there any known tuners who do this kind of thing or is it more-or-less any tuner? are the prices steep? etc any input/info welcomed. cheers |

yeah i'm not sure if it possible on my car either... found this website which lists some similar cars (escort 1.8 zetecs etc) £500 area would be good. Omex alone is around £700, then add mapping ontop

would'nt think remap of the ford ECU give much improvement without other mods. only main reason if going for after market ecu is if you are running individual throttle bodies like these.

i got some other mods which could be optimized. Fast Road Cams and Flowed head which in fairness aren't being used to full potential. |

in that case then, with those mods like that carbs or throttle bodies be worth it, im trying the same as SK8XTRM did by running individual throttle bodies with the ford ECU |

i know this may sound contradictnig, but i wasn't looking at TB's or carbs just yet. two reaons - firstly- although inevitabley my fuel consumption will go up with a remap it won't be as much with tb's & carbs, and secondly i dont have the money to buy/fit carbs either just yet. plus it is still a daily runner

there was someone doing it. i cant remember who. have you tried asking on escort evolution? the best bet you may have is having a piggyback chip written for it if you cant find someone to remap the std one. obviously it wont be an off the shelf job but it will help you maximise what you have done. hope that helps. i have a superchip currently but it isn't having much affect. i think they quoted me £399 or £299 or a re-programming of the chip, which isn't bad i don't suppose. i will take a look on escort evolution, thanks for the replies chaps! |

If its costing 300+ for any of the above mentioned things then megasquirt is around the same price... get basemap and remap it yourself lol. |

Well I havent done it(yet) Its still in planning stage.. But MS then wideband setup on exhaust, once youve got the basic settings it doesnt seem too hard I would rather give it a go then spend a daft amount on a chip... you could always sell the MS on afterwards if you didnt like it
