firstly, what a great site!
secondly, i aint no mechanic so go easy.

thirdly,to point!
i have a 1995 fiesta1.4 si, and i would like to take my car to the next level interms of acceleration and speed. im thinking of getting a bit of surgery going on and replacing the existing engine for an rst engine.
would this be my best shot?
i have looked at previous threads, and from what i can gather, i wouldnt need to replace the existing brake system, but just replace the front discs and pads whith something expensive :)

any previous links to guides and exactly what i would need to buy and any mods would be great.?

to start with your dont need to fit expensive disks and pads, st150 of cosworth 278mm disks and calipers go on with relative ease and you can pick up a set of st150 brakes (the easest to fit) for under £200 pounds, a escos set-up should be around £100. either of these set-ups would be more than suitable, and the rst actually came with the same brakes as the si, 240mm vented disks.
to fit the rst engine you will need the engine, manifolds and turbo, intercooler and radator, loom, ECU, clutch, and flywheel. havent tried it myself but have seen it done a few times.
the 2.0 conversion would be cheaper but you will need the engine mounts for the zetec./
the simplest conversion you could so for would be a carbed engine, them you only have to plug in the edis. a XR2i engine with twin 45s, 4-1, stage 2 head and a good cam will give you around the same power as an rst lump but could be a bit most costly, but would sound good.
the best thing you could do is to go on to one popular auction site and see what you can find in your budget. hope this helps

id go for zetec conversion personally, if you cant be botherd with arsing around with swapping bits for the 2l job then just get your self a 1.8 and put rs1800 or 130ps xr3i cams ecu and throttle body on it and you will be happy with it.
just pick an engine that you think you will be happy with or youl end up changing it every year like ive done, i started with 1.4 cvh then went cam happy carbd 1.6cvh then 130 spec zetec then rs2000 16v all in the space of 3 years, never anything wrong with the engines as i stripped down and rebuilt them all but its easy as im a techi anyways but the point is the money. full gasket set alone is over £100 + all the time etc so think for a while before diving in feet first
