I've been scrapping it off with a paper stripping knife but its bloody hard work. there must be an easier way?

i think you mean sound deadening?

if so a heat gun and a scrapper might do the trick

screwfix it is then! and i've heard aldi have got compressors and tool kits going cheap so might have to get one for respraying interior!
