wa bits can i strip out of my car to make it lighter? without, changing the look of the interior thou so far i havent got a spare wheel. im gona remove the spare wheel carryer i think the insulation under the bonnet is gonna go wa other bits can i strip out? which u cant see? door insulation nd stuff i was thinking. but that wont make much difference. |

to be fair if you only looking at stripping out stuff like the under bonnet and other insulation its going to make next to no differance in performance just more internal noise. if you look in basic terms standard car weighs say 950kg and you can remove 95kg = 10% you will get an increase in initial acceleration of 10% for the same engine power. But the stuff you are talking about removing will be out weighed by a tank full of fuel and a big mac!

if you want to save some weight...rear seats, trim, any large stereo equipment you may have headliner, carpet, tar insulation between floor and carpet, swap the front seats for one piece buckets for a weight saving, perspex to replace the glass..depends how far you wanna go really |

Get rid of the engine!   The Sound deadeneing Tar under the carpet weighs a Fair bit, But if your still planning to use your car as a daily, going balls out on stripping can be annoying, noise and comfort wise. But if you don't mind that, ask your self 3 questions *Do i need it by law (MOT)? *Does is it make me go quicker? *Does it stop the car? If the selected item answers "NO" to all 3 then get rid!

if you want noise and some more fun remove the underbonnet sheet and your rear seats and carpet. i often whack the back seats down purely for the sound haha. if you want performance then it's either the whole hog or just not worth it. as in not even a cd player or speakers. if you can't get into the mentality properly then don't bother thinking about it. just let the insurance company know about it if it's the last option eh. |

I hated mine stripped to start with and I didnt even go the full hog. But I got used to it  I love the look of my car with all the interior in tho, its a hard choice. When I ZT the RS1800 I "might" go the full hog and do it properly and cage it, but I'm not sure if I would regret it, TBH 200bhp with the full interior is still going to be quick, and will look better... hmm

i probs wont strip it fully, mite remove the underbonnet insulation so theres more noise nd the spare wheel has gone coz the carrier dont work. |

im stripping mine fully! roof lining, door cards, rear seats, all plastic trim apart from the dash, polycarb windows, carpet, rear seatbelts, speakers apart from door speakers! then ill fit 2 buckets relocate the battery in the boot and get rid of all the brackets in engine bay! also fuel cell from burton power with filler cap in the rear polycarb! should see a nice reduction

when i had a drag race with my mates a3 and lost i wanted more speed but had no money so i stripped my si 2.0ltr.. i took absolutely everything out and regretted it so much, got next to nothing for the car when i sold it as no one wanted a car that didnt even have air vents.. yes i took the clock out that weighed nothing.. yes i took the door cards off the carpet front and back, the only thing left was the dash and even then most thing were missing off it, but my god when i raced my mate again i beat him and it was worth it then.. |
