hi guys n girls just a question im really unsure of

my mate is helping me do my car up got my wheels refurbed about to get tyres (195/45/15 think thats right ) will i need spacers for the front
and..... he says i can chop the springs front and rear to lower it ???? is this possable he says that they are straight springs with no 'pig tails' so just chop half a coil of
help dont wanna fook this up and let him
i wanna save some cash but dont wanna spend loads in the future thanks in advance

It can be done, but i would say its not a good idea! Cutting a spring, just seems crazy to me! you can get just spring kits for cheap! £60> :)

I agree with Matt on the one, yes cutting the springs is cheap and easy but its still going to be bouncy as hell and i must add slightly dangerous right???

Id never cut a spring, when springs are designed there will be loads of factors taken into account, not just wheter it has a pigtail on it. Cutting it will change a lot of charecteristics, hooks law is an example of complicated springness.

haha nah I suppose that on its own isnt, but a lot of things to do with springs are, dunno if all the shizzle like tensile stress and tension and stuff, cant really rmember it, almost a year since I last did physics.
