The ECU in a 1.6 zetec. I have a superchip on the way and have no idea where the ECU is to plug it in. Is it something I can easily do myself or should I take to a garage..?
Pics if possible please will help me greatly thanks.

hi chris,

the ecu is located half in the engine bay, half in the cab on the passengers side. the half you're after is in the cab.

so, first things first and disconnect the battery. then stick your head in the passenger footwell and look up towards the rear of the glove box you should see a silver box held at am angle, that's the ecu!

at the end you can see there will be a black rubber cover.this is where the chip goes. pull off the cover and insert your chip so the contacts meet the circuit board that you can see poking out. make sure and give it a good push home so it's making good contact with the ecu!
then re connect the battery and have some fun!

Its only a cover over the contacts, but what has been said is correct. I could give a picture of a foot well and say look up but is simple once you see it.

Edit - how long do I need to wait after disconnected the battery before doing it? And how long do need to wait after reconnecting (if at all) thanks.

remapping the ecu will cost alot.

and hardly anywhere remaps the ford ecu

just live with the chip
or get a "live map" on the chip, which will cost alot also.

would be cheaper to get megasquirt

I just looked and fudge! The amount of times I've messed about around that area fitting my sub and that'd I've never noticed that silver box.. It's kinds hard not to. Took off the black cover and it looks like an easy fit.
Just wait for it to arrive now

I don't know.. Does feel a little bit more responsive, meant to put 6 bhp in top. But that's such a small amount I can't really tell. In all honesty I'm a little disapointed

Superchip made zero performance increase for me y0. It cost me Â£60, half the price of a 2 litre Zetec :lolz:
