i did mine out the top but it was a child born out of wedlock as it has to go in at a angle because of the battery tray then its a pain to get it level again, im sure that droping it under is alot easier than taking it out the top, i also had to take off the inlet manifold or it wouldnt have cleared the brake servo 8-)

Goaty, does it come does it clear the brake servo easy? I can see the battery tray being an arse too.

you can either pull it out without the Gbox, this is easy just remove front and back engine mounts and the rest of the bits then twist it and lift. With the gearbox you have to lift it at angle with the crane then just level it out once above the servo etc. Easy peasy

if your leaving the gearbox in i take it out the top with a cheap engine crane, dont have to take out gearbox or driveshafts as they move quite alot, makes it easier if you undo the waterpump drive bolts, remove auxillary belt just to give bit more room. only done one fiesta 16valve but wasn't much harder than a OHV engine once everything was unplugged.
Garage record for a complete engine change in any car is 1Hour 40 minutes driven into workshop and driven out.
Longest is a week.

The 2.0l was the same on pertrol as the 1.6 maybe even better on motorways etc because of the torque!
