Altrite folks was wondering if you can help just wanting to confirm which engine oil is used or best for a Ford Fiesta SI 1.6 16V Zetec? I always buy 5w 40 from which I got told was best for that problem of the sticky valves?
There's so much stupid things that could have been avoided if the person that created or invented this car had thought about the future a little bit, dont get me started! (so much things I've had to change and upgrade before I got this car running to its maximum....anyway back the question!

Any feed back?

Synthetic 5w30
you'll find most of them say, specifically for ford zetec engines

Always use Semi Synthetic, avoid fully synthetic. 2 reasons, 1, synthetic whilst brilliant stuff doesn't have the same cold characteristics of mineral oil so a slight extra wear happens when cold, it is not noticable but it happens. 2, if you are stuck somewhere and you need oil, you are more likely to be able to get mineral oil rather than synthetic which isn't a problem with semi synth but is a massive problem with fully synth as you cannot mix mineral with synth. So whilst JD isn't wrong, Semi is better and safer and causes slightly less wear due to its proper mineral oil characteristics. Also i would use Valvoline if you can, it is by far the dogs danglies and that is from Richard who tunes and builds racing engines in Brighouse, and to say he is brilliant is an understatement.

Cheers mike2530, all the more info the better!
I said in my first post I was buying 5w 40 but am ok cause it was 5w 30 I was buying!
I've only bought the stuff from Ford once cause its £25 for 5litres!
I always get in from Unipart for bout £18 for 5litres so save myself a few quid!
How much dearer is Valvoline semi synthetic than the fullysythetic DX stuff I'm buying just now, can it be bought from any local dealer?

In my FIesta I always used Magnatec 5-30 semi synth. Never had any probs, and teh car ran sweeter than with any other oil in it.

On the Pulsar I use fully synth 10-50, which costs a gorgeous £46 for 5litres (when on offer!) and I can only get it on the internet from Opie Oils! lol

Sounds like I'll be switching to the semi-synthetic then never thought bout it before didnt think it would make much difference but like you said if its running sweeter then all the better!
I'm doing a full service to it myself this wkend so hopefully makes a little difference but my engine since the day i bought it has been brilliant no point in any conversions at the minute maybe in the future though!
£46 for 5litres thats nuts, rather you than me mate but if you've got the money you only go for the best!!

Cheers mate!!

I ALWAYS buy oil from Ford or Vauxhall depending on which of my cars i put it in. Oil for my Omega 2.6V6 from vauxhall @ £12 a gallon 5W30 Semi Synth and oil from Ford for 10W40 @ £6 a gallon for my 1.8D fiesta, 1.3 Equipe or 2.0 Fiesta. My argument is that if Ford or Vauxhall sell it then it must be good enough.

When i have the 2.0 Fiesta tuned properly and re-built with balanced, lightened bottom end, shot peened rods, Mahle pistons, big valave head to stage 2 or 3, stupid cams & weber alphatronic injection then it will get Valvoline semi synth oil and Slick 50. Slick 50 is the best thing ever but you should ONLY use it in a new engine as it is to reduce wear but with an old engine the wear has already happened.
