well i no ive already posted bout putting a 1.8 head on my 1.6 but ive seen a 1.8 sittin in the scrappers n as far as i can tell its got all the bits in all the same places as the 1.6

is this correct? and so would this make a 1.8 conversion easier than a 2.0?

looks like a straight swap?

hi there i have just recently put a 1.8 105ps in mine very easy to do didnt have to move crank sensor etc so was alot easier than the 2.0 conversion iam running the 1.6 gear box i went for the 1.8 as people with mk1 and 2's say they rev higher and also if you do inlet manifold and maf and throttle bodie, ecu and 130ps cam of rs1800 you will get a 130ps engine will handel better too apprently also iam using my 1.6 ecu and runs fine overfuels a bit but every thing is a straight swap

ps pricing turbo on mine running low boost on standard stage what you reckon say 7psi. be cheaper than tb's

The fitting won't be much different to the 2.0 which is simple.

One advantage with the 1.8 is its easier to turbo.

With a 1.8 you can use the original pistons and use a decomp plate and still go for around 220bhp

Where the 2.0 will need low comp pistons as they just can't handle it.

With that if you want really big power figures (300bhp) then the 2.0 is the best way and for that kind of power either engine will need new pistons.

Overall if you want more power and plan to stay n/a tuning or not mess much just go 2.0 if you plan a small budget turbo project a 1.8 will be better. if you want a big power turbo (and have money to burn) go for the 2.0

you do realise in doing this your car will be classed as the same insurance group as a 1.8 mk3 fiesta, ie, xr2i 16v - group 13!
just stick with 2.0, only goes to group 9, and you'll have more power and torque straight out of the box.
also, you'll find most 1.8's run external EDIS on the ECU/loom so you'll have to swap for that for it to run right
