K+N induction kit, worth it?

Had a look at a K+N induction kit at work, for a si and i see that it replaces the intake hose as well, looks a alot more un restrictive than the standard thing.

Basically, i cant see it making a whole load of difference, but does it give a bit better throttle response, and is it worth it?

It's not one of the loudest induction kits out there.

It wont win prizes for power gains.

It will suffer from heat soak unless you do something about it.

But yes, generally it will improve the throttle response. It's all down to helping the engine breathe easier. Combine that with a decent exhaust and you'll notice a bit more responsiveness. I noticed the difference when I put mine on, but like I said, it wont give you much power gains.

Cool, thats what i wanted to know.

So with the heat soak i need something to delfect the heat from the engine, any ideas?

Well, with the newer kits, K&N do make a sort of box to go around it. Unfortunately, not for the Si kit, but shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate one yourself or get someone to do it. Just make sure you give it a cold air feed and it shouldn't be too bad, but with hot days like we've been having, any car will feel a bit laggy, compared to normal.

Just get one, give it a blast, and see what you can do to improve it after

Maybe put some alluminium foil around the air intake pipe to help stop the heat, it should help deflect the heat?

A cold air feed pipe will not be as helpful as people may think to a standard induction kit,to enable a cold air feed pipe to work the cold air must be sucked into the filter,that is y k+n introduced the typhoon kit and also pipercross do the viper kit these will both increase performance.throttle response and give u added bhp range in price from about ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£200-ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£250.
And IMHO the pipercross is a damn site beta just in the way the carbon box is made !!!

A cold air feed will not sort out the heatsoak problem, that's not what I said. But every little you can do to help can only do it good. There's no real point in the PiperX and K&N debate as to which is better, because there really isn't any difference in performance between the 2. Just the K&N kit comes with the induction pipe which reduces the resistance the air has to travel against. The PiperX "kit" is actually just the air filter, and hence, may be cheaper to buy

Just slap one on

But if u are goin to apply just an induction kit u will have to purchase a heat sheild too to reduce the heat from the engine reaching it if u want a real difference u will need to fit the more expensive k+n typhoon or the piper X viper kit to really notice the difference !!!
