I can tell you now:
Engine upgrade conversion to 1.8 or 2.0 zetec engine.
The 1.6 can be upgraded no problem but its not really worth the money spending on it, see if you can find an rs1800 engine, add a four branch exhaust manifold with decat pipe, a decent full system exhaust, upgrade the panel filter or get an enclosed induction kit, that should see you in the 140bhp bracket, or in extreme cases you can upgrade to bike carbs or throttle bodies which can boost it up to 160bhp on a standard engine, don't bother with upgrading cams unless you're gonna attempt to rebuild the engine to over 200bhp, standard 1.8 or 130 spec cams like the rs1800 engine or the 2.0 engine will be good for upto 200-250bhp.
I have an rs1800 engine that I have bought with updated newman cams and jenvey throttle bodies and the previous owner said when he got the engine mapped up they said that the cams where too aggressive, and advised him if he were to get the bottom end rebuilt with all steel parts and upgrade the cylinder head to stage 2 then with those cams could see 200bhp
