I was wondering what front suspension set-ups you guys have?

I have a late 1.1 mk3 (which is actually the mk3.5 shell, so I've discovered) and I'm stripping the suspension as I'd like to lower it and for it to handle better for sprint racing (nothing serious).

If I'm right I need to get struts with the bracket for the drop links and lower wishbones off an XR2I, RS Turbo, SI or RS1800i.

It would be useful for me to hear what you have on your rides.

Cheers.

Ive got spax shocks and springs.

If your going to add anti roll bars to the car, you will need a shock with the bracket yes, or you could weld a bracket on. Wishbones can stay the same.

What sort of setup are you looking for? Fully adjustable ride height and damping? Just damping adjustable? Set damping and ride height? Hard ride? Soft ride?

Depends on your budget too, if you got cash to splash, get coilovers, you can do ride height and damping, perfect for racing. If not, try find some adjustable damping shocks with lowering spings, or if your not bothered about the damping, get some shocks and springs - they tend to be more of a firmer ride from my experience too.. or, if you want a soft ride but just lower, get lowering springs on the standard shocks.

Hope some of that helps.

Cheers Danny Boy.

I want to do it as cheap as possible, so to start with it'll probably be standard shocks with lowered springs and take it from there.

Did the SI have an anti roll bar? do you recommend it?

1600 upward had both. 1400 had front only. wishbone carrier frames and rear beams are different. poverty speccers dont have the mounts for the bars. so youll need wishbone carriers and beam depending on what you want to fit.

i have a 1.3 mk3.5 as a daily runner. it has my old si shocks and springs setup on. and im still impressed with it without the roll bars.little more comfy for daily use if im honest. if your sprinting it then i would adivse you fit the rollbars. both if you can. as it will help you on the courses. it doesnt feel bad in the car body roll wise..but it does feel abit skittish when tackling my fave corners at speeds just under what my si did comfortably. a good set of dampers dont have to be fancy. pref gas with a half decent set of springs will stand you in good stead.

personally i wouldnt go welding brackets onto damper legs. youll know when you have good penetration..youll be wearing the contents of it. remember your dealing with pressurised containers here! the dampers with the roll bar mounts on are no dearer anyway as far as i remember. maybe a fiver a leg in it.

but you were right on the bits you listed at the bottom of your first post ;)..just please tell me your not sprinting a 1.1

HTH.

Jam.

I'm ditching the 1.1 and I have a 1.6 Si engine sitting in the engine, with all the bits needed for the conversion. It's not going to be mega quick but it's cheap and I'm sure I'll have loads of fun.

I best keep my eye out for some SI front shocks, lowering springs and roll bars.

Thanks for the help and advice.

might want to get a strut brace aswell, with the anti roll bar you want a thicker arb on the back then the front as its fwd, a guy i know rallies a ford puma, they have a thicker arb on the back then the front for tarmac rallies and on gravel they take the front arb off completely, he says they make a difference so thats something to think about

My fiesta was on the Spax VSX kit and it was amazing, sure it only cost me £200 for the full kit new, I can't recommend them more.

Hi,

All of the Fiesta's (Si, RS) have a 16mm front anti roll bar and a 20mm rear one.

Watch, as some of the lower models have a 12mm Front ARB! Not much use really!!

sorry i was wrong about the front anti roll bar, it is 16mm.

try mk5 zs beam on the back, supposed to be wider and stiffer.

ZS beam is not wider. Just stronger. Better bearings (solid). Only becomes wider when you put either focus disks on or the spacer that comes with the KA's, i think.

Really should fit my one, had it for over a year.
