Just wondered if anyone else could think of any mods & costs to increase BHP without a turbo conversion on my 2.0 Si. Currently has: Polished & Ported Head, Kent Fast Road Cams, Vernior Pulleys, Power Boost Valve, 4-2-1 Racing Manifold & Decat, 4" Powerflow Exhaust, Custom Samco K&N Induction Kit, Splitfire Leads & Plugs. Currently at 160BHP. :)

Get a CAF to the induction kit if it doesn't. Won't do that much but should increase responsiveness by quite a bit

if you are still running the orignal inlet, individual throttle bodies and different management should be a worth while improvement.

Yes its on standard inlet. What sort of cost and BHP would you expect to see from these throttle bodies ?

ITBS £1000 and management £500, plus sundries like manifold and the time/labour to do it. Be looking close to £2.5k if you don't do the fitting and such yourself.

<Waits for someone to come and bum bike bodies>

My advice would be bigger cams first and have a proper set up. Bodies without a decent cam would be a bit pointless.

Iam looking to push for about 200BHP without turbo, so need about another 40BHP. Will throttle bodies and bigger cams etc, be more reliable then a turbo conversion ?. Just dont want to be replacing turbos all the time.

from the burton Power web site (link below) 200bhp is possible but with stage 2 head and different cams, and throttle bodies, as you say you already have mild ported head and cams with standard throttle body, i would think this is the current limiting factor to more power, as above if you want plug and play throttle bodies then you are looking at £2k+, however i have to say it, if you have time and diy inclination, motorbike throttle bodies as mine above £100, megasquirt DIY ECU £300, setting up £200 would expect to release maybe 15bhp more on your existing setup, im in the process of fitting my throttle bodies with standard ford ECU and will see how it goes.

I fail to see how you have got to 160bhp in your current state to be fair.. You would need to be on aftermarket management or a good remap on the standard ecu to get the best from your mods!

ITBs will be the way forward to see 200bhp. Bike bodies are budget and pikey, but do the job.. where as things like Jenvey ITBs is where you spend your money.. manifold to fit the jenveys is £160 alone  and its only a bit of metal

But N/A tuning isnt the best bang per buck method..

Could spend same amount of money on doing a turbo engine and have 100bhp more.

quotemehappy.com dyno prints?

I know of a member who had their car RR'd at one place at a believeable 140bhp, then before selling had it RR'd at another place to give the new owner a lovely graph with 160bhp on it. :hsugh:

i see fezzytech's thread about 20% leakege on two pistons :?

the standard inlet is your limiting factor here for sure. they might flow upto 300 odd with boost but for n/a are seeing thier lmit around the 160 mark. which is where yours has got to. webbers figures for the alpha kit are 165 for an otherwise std engine apart from the bodies and mapping session. so thats about 30 odd before you even start playing with cams head work valve sizes hi comp pistons. you say fast road cams. is that the 2001's? these are the same as the 1802's virtually and make for a good torquey 2.0. if your running 02's you need to get the std inlet off for sure as that wont be doing it any favours at all. im guessing at stage 2 head you have larger inlet valves?

pound for pound a good (that doesnt read cheap as poss or biggest turbo you can find etc) ZT will be as reliable as anything else and be alot cheaper and give better gains than N/A. provided you dont get silly with the boost and have it set up correctly. and maintain it to a reasonable standard. it will be fine. what you should also consider is..yeah 200 brake n/a sounds good..but if its your main form of transport and behaves like a shit at low revs that will grow old very fast indeed.

just something to bear in mind.

i thought i was getting good figures but 160 bhp even from throttle bodies i was expecting 185bhp but never happened due to compression issues fubared the map up and the cat was throwing tha much fuel in it didnt even have good acceleartion bottom end hitech wanted 300 + vat to remap it but i was not going to have it remapped on a knackered bottom end, stick decent management on it and you will get alot more accelration at bottom end thats where it matters because thats where to hard work goes into a map not how much bhp you get at top end
