It's coming around soon and I'm thinking there's two ways to do it:

Quotes from direct and comparisons with all the modifications on the car and just be like  at the price. And with my 1yncb I'm wondering if they'll let me have that many modifications?

Or standard quotes from the pair, get out the insurance (while asking how many modifications they allow) and every couple days/weeks I'll just say "how much more for this, ok whack that on please" and that way I'm thinking it'll be cheaper/sometimes no extra cost.

What do we think? And what would be the best company in your experience? Going to try that chrisknott or whatever aswith a forum quote I can get "discount"

Just need some opinions/experieces. Cheers

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

i wouldnt take out standard insurance then keep ringing up asking how much for this ect, they will very quickly become suspiciouse and may end up sending some 1 to look at the car or just cancle the policy.
you might get away with it but what if your in an accident and weeks before you rang up and asked how much for lowered suspension and they said an extra 300 so you thort sod that, they may have made a note of it and when the assesor looks at your car and sees you have suspension they say they arent paying out.

its a big risk to take.

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Yeah I know about the accident thing. I'm not going to say I have suspension, how much? I'm going to say how much more would it be as im thinking of getting it fitted? And then when I know. Phone back two days later and tell them it's on. I haven't got that many mods. And I have 1 yncb, I take it from the lack of replies with 1year no one told tree insurance about half there mods?

Author:  onslack [ Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:06 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Insurance

all my mods were declared from day one of my policy

when i had a 1.6, i had wheels and back box declared

when i had my 2.0 in, i had the engine, tubular manifold, k&n, echaust, 60mm suspension all declared, 2.o was declared to the DVLA as well

people might not reply as they dont like people cheating there way into getting insurance, if you/someone else hit me and had some un declared mods thus invalidating your/thier insurance i wouldn't be impressed!

how old are you?

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Declare all. If you were inspecting a crash, would you miss things off on a car insured to be "standard" when you can see air filters, springs, exhaust etc

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

I'm 19. I'm just trying to figure out what the beat way to do it would be. It renews soon. I'm not trying to cheat my way into insurance at all. I want the insurance to be proper but with 0ncb I don't think there going to allow all the mods. An you'll say I shouldn't have the car, but I wanted it!
When did you declare the wheels and back box though? What age/ncb?
I just dont want renewal date to come around and not be able to get insurance.

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

i passed just before i turned 20, bought my Si just after i turned 20

i declared the back box and wheels with tesco when i bought it, i had 0ncb and 0 years driving exp, was paying 2k in the end tho, but it was all declared  :red:

when i turned 21 i moved to adrian flux, i had 1 ncb and 1 year driving exp, i dropped a 2.0 in as it was cheaper to insure it as a 2.0 than re-new as a 1.6 with tesco :lolz: :hmm:

try and give adrian flux a call, they might give you a quote, mattyboy was with them @ 19 when he had his 2.0 Si, but iirc he had 1 ncb!

worth a try

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Yeah i was thinking Adrian flux they wouldn't insure me on a standard 2.0 dropped fiesta with brakes and suspension upgrade. I did get a quote though £3000... without half the other stuff declared. So I didn't buy that. I will phone Adrian flux then. And try this chris knott. And there just somenof the specialists, it does seem they cut you a little slack once you have ncb.

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

yeah i think they do

3k  what mods you got on your car? i dont even pay that for my 300bhp cossie :lolz:

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Yeah 3k, was ridiculous.

On this car I have,

Alloys, tints, -40 springs, (skirts and arches count?), back box.
Induction kit on the way and a superchip.

I'm payng £162 a month for my 1.6 at the mo

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

not that much really then, deffo be worth ringing around then before it does run out

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

I am not saying this is right but pleading ignorance with insurance has been known to get people out of things. Say if you buy a car used with alloys how was you to know they wern't on the car standard?

Also in alot cases unless a mod contributed to a crash (badly fitted or significantly faster etc) then they may payout but just not for mods.

Really I would just serach for the best quotes on confused etc then phone up and see what they say as some insurance companys don't care much unless its something big.

Author:  Chris [ Fri Sep 04, 2009 4:18 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Insurance

I did think of the ignorance thing. Like, thinking alloys were standard and not knowing it mattered if the were different. But to save complications and just general piece of mind (and also So I can hit a white van and claim alot of money because there c***s)
When you find out on comparisons it doesn't have mod options though does it?
And if I started phoning now would they be able to quote me? Renewal is november

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

3k  when i was 19 many years ago now i had a mk2 escort 1.3 with 2.0 capri carb big valve head rally cam, 4 branch full exhaust lowered 2.0 capri brakes and shocks no security other than fords standard crap no ncb and i paid £300    those were the days before boy racer scum :lolz: :lolz:

declair everything and ring round loads of companys but check the cheap quotes, some of em might sound great but the fine print will basicly mean y arent covered for anything or you have an excess thats more than the cars worth.

i had a 2.0 laguna and i paid £1500 fully comp when i was 21 the excess was £1000
so always ask questions when the insurance sounds 2 cheap to be true because it usualy is.

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Nice. £1000 is not good. I'll definately check everything. Wish I could pay £300!
Can I start phoning around now then? It's about two months until renewal though thinking about it.

And are we at the conclusion that all in one bulk will be cheaper? Or just better? Because I'm thinking they'll stick alot on for some things that they might not even bother with if I phoned up after, like window tints. It's abut like mileage. Say your going to do 5000. When you reach it they charge like £5. whereas (depending on company etc) you put 10000 from that start and it'll go up £20+ or something.

Author:  onslack [ Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:07 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Insurance

no harm in trying now :D

if you got for 5k some might stick you on limited mileage policy

Author:  Chris [ Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:26 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Insurance

limited mileage policy? Jesus insurance companies are out to get you aren't they. Luckily they didn't take down the milage of my old si when I sold it off.. As I'd done about 7000 miles over (I didn't realize how much I would be driving. First proper car) and they haven't taken the mileage of this si down either. I'll just make sure they don't have that policy as it'll be cheaper.

I'll start ringing around soon then. One way to stress my self out saying the same things over and over lol

One last thing would be, the clocks show 123000 and the engines done 38000, the engine is exactly the same 90bhp 1.6 zetec. Do I need to tell them? Will it put it up more? Lol

Author:  sinjon [ Sat Sep 05, 2009 9:05 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Insurance

limited milage policys are a good way to get it cheaper its obviouse the less the car is on the road the less likely it is to be involved in a crash
alot of the specialist insurers will ask if your a member of any clubs ect alot of them will realise your an enthusiast not a chav out to drive as fast as you can and race every 1 :lolz:
been young with a fairly sporty car your never going to save alot of money but allways phone around some companys will give you a stupidly high quote just because they dont want you but you maybe suprised at some of the quotes you get.
i wouldnt mention the engine change if its the same engine size as they will just go off what milage the car is showing.

Swallow hard and get old is all I can say. Soon goes and it'll drop every year.

Post subject:  Re: Insurance

Not strictly true I still pay more than I should and I am 26 now! basically areas can still have a big effect.

Saying that I started at £1500 for a 1.1 fiesta TPFT which wasn't even worth that much, so things have got a lot better.
