Hi, I know I havn't actually got an Si anymore but thought somebody on here might be able to help/suggestions....

Basically Im insured at the mo with Quinn-Direct, I'm on my mums policy and turning 18 next month so have been getting qoutes, thinking the price would go down... At the mo I'm payin £750 on a Volvo V40s 1.6, the price was exactly the same on the 1.6 Si, Citroen Xsara 1.8 16v and a 306 D-Turbo and Berlingo van. When I come to renew it when I'm 18, with a years named driving and my mum an extra 1yncb, it goes to £1320??? :cry:

The plan was to go on my dads traders policy, but thats changed..... So been getting qoutes all night, even on a 1.0l corsa Breeze (Insurance group 1) worth £150, with a years named driving, live in the middle of nowhere, car kept in a locked garage!!!... I cant get a qoute on my own, 3party t+t for under £1270!!??? :frown:

Anyone got any suggestions? Im baffled... Gunna have to ring in the mornin, but cant sleep knowin im gunna be payin that much on a 1.0 corsa!!!!

Insurance companys pay no attention to "named bonus" im afraid, unless specified by people like Direct line, and even then its non transferable between companys :frown:

Try the comparison sites (plenty of them) add you parents, (both if you can, assuming they have clean records and are in whats classed as a "proffessional occupation")

Remember, being 18, you only need TPFT, full comp is not worth the extra per year.
Annual mileage is simply an estimate (otherwise, they'd ask you at the end of the year)........therefore estimate.....wink, wink ......just don't give them the current mileage of the car :rolleyes:
Your occupation will effect things greatly, office jobs are better than manual jobs of students im afraid.


Thats about the only advice I can give really, other than get quotes on loads and loads of cars (appears you've done alittle of that).......then get the car based on its insurance cost ;) ;)
Example.....when all around me were buying fiestas/corsas for first cars, I spent an age getting insurance quotes on mondeos/vectras.....(v6s were still about £3k for myself)....stumbled accross the Honda Accord 2.2i.....(quote was a fraction over £1.1k :D) surfice to say, I then whent and bought one :D :D :D



If your after cheap.....Admiral. Just make sure you don't ever need to change your car, don't have an accident and don't take NO for an answer :)

Quite interestin wat you were saying about the 2.2i Accord, might have a look into those sorts of cars. Suppose I should of expected it really, just had it in my head that with a years driving it would go down.. :frown:

Yeah I'd only ever go 3rd party t+t til Im older and have a car actually worth somthing.. I'll give Admiral a try, do they let you drive other cars 3rd party if you are the policy holder on a 3rd t+t dya know?..Cos thats somthing I definatly need.

Spose I better give Quinn a ring and see what the score is, been putting it off all morning! :lol:

when i first passed my test i got my Si with in3 months of passing i was paying £1700! then was an honest boy and declared the alloys and backbox(which was actually a full system that i never knew about until last year :lol: ) and it went up to £2000!

i passed just before i turned 20! :red:

so my first year of driving i was paying £2000 for a 1.6 Si :cry:, it then dropped to just over £1000 when i got my 1st NCB, but was cheaper still to insure it with a 2.0 then to re-new with a 1.6 :? :lol:

can you guess what i did? :devil:

i had nothing but trouble with quinn, sounds like they just keep it the same, untill u renew. but i would say look else where try like moneysupermarket i use them work quotes but dont use them for insurance, find out whos cheapest then go direct to that that website!!!

I went from paying £1600 for a 1.4D metrothat bearly did 70 to £500 on an rs1800 fiesta in 3 years, quote for my 1.8TD is £350, and quote for my 250bhp ZT is £750 8-)

As a new young driver you just have to take it I had to pay £1400 in my first year on a 1.1 fiesta.

Have you done the pass plus course? that saved me quite a lot and add you mum/dad as a named driver if they have a good few years no claims.

Usually if you get past year one then it drops quite a bit.

I'm worrying about insurance too.

Paid £1200 for my 1.1 fiesta, then changed to an Si for an extra £180 4 months into the policy.

Now my Si with everything declared is about £650 with a years no claims.

Now every quote i get, declared or not, is more expensive with an extra years no claims. :? I don't get it.

Quinn remains cheapest though, so just awaiting my renewal letter, as that was cheaper than website quotes last year anyway.

I'm glad i was on my own policy from day 1 though.

it's a ball ache but sometimes its worth getting phoone qoutes instead of online qoutes. I find them to be cheaper.

Insurance is odd though. when i changed from a group 7 to group 15 car they charged me an extra 200 quid all in all. But i'm lucky as the gti-6 is cheaper for me to insure than most other group 13 to 15 cars oddly.
