i have my alloys, cat back magnex exhaust and 30mm springs... which affect the insurance or do they all? and how much by?

i will be ringing tomorrow but don't want to drop myself in it incase it's too expensive and i whack them on anyway without them knowing?

thanks, ben (really want to get this stuff, can't wait any longer!)

well your premium will go up but by how much is anyones guess, I whacked "exhaust system changes" on my aviva policy at £100 value and it didn't change.
If you with direct line then they don't do mods for under 25yo so I wouldn't bother ringing.
But yes, you need to have all those declared so that your insurance is valid on the road, make sure you get some locking wheels nuts for your alloys as they will ask whether or not you have some and it will be more costly if you don't

as chris says they all need to be declared to the insurance company or they could get arsey if you needed to claim. my company had a mod premium which basicially cost £25-50 which you paid after any modification (meaning your first mod not every mod you do) then the premium would go up depending on the mod you do. some dont have much of an affect others will shoot up tht total.

if you dont want to screw yourself over just ask them when you call them what their policy on modifications are and how much it would cost if you changed... i dont know lets say... alloys, exhaust and suspension. if they say oh we couldnt insure you with those alterations or that would cost $1million then you say oh i guess i wont do that then... no problems. if they say it would cost an extra £50-100 you say that you are going to do them in the next few days and could they add it to your policy so you are declared ready for the mods to be made... bobs your uncle fannys your aunt

i guess you just got to run the risk if you decide its too costly and you have already done the work :(

I know there is an insurance phone directory but i think we should make a feed for people to list the best insurance companies based on price and understanding.

mine are terrible and chris has ruled out direct line unless your 25+

We need to know who isnt going to shaft us come modding time (or the fact we are young)

rytio some good advice there chaps. i'm with churchill young drivers and i'm pretty sure they allow mods. but if it's going to cost an extra £100 say i'm going to have to think about that as i'm pushing it already with some of my costs. off to gardening but will be ringing on return so i will let everyone know how it goes... god forbid.

Go with an insurance company that doesn't charge any admin fee's or extra costs for modifications from the start or throughout the policy (except roll cages, turbo's, superchargers, throttle bodies in my case)

There's plenty about! They just don't have the time or money to market themselves compared to the likes of the giants!

yeah i mean when i reinsured with churchill, they were the cheapest by far... i checked all the places in fast ford and they just couldnt beat there price. after this year i'll have to look properly and get recommendations.
my mum is going to kill me too. not looking foward to later.

if you plan to keep your fez and still want the mods, just hang onto them. get another ncb and years exp behind you and try modified car specialists

adrian flux were good for me when i first went to them, i converted my si from a 1.6 to a 2.0 after my 1st year of driving  :red:

they did loose out tho as they wouldnt do me any deals when i got the cossie :squint:

How long you got left on your policy then? Near enough a full year I take it?

It is a shit one, but at the end of the day, there's no point getting screwed over and fucking up your future no claims for the sake of changing the appearance of the car. Even if you old bill pulled you over one day they could turn around and check to see if your mods are declared, and if not, bye bye! :)

Bide your time, do it right, and you'll be laughing in the long run ;)

cheers des! my thinking exactly. it just means i can work on fixing the mechanical issues first, which should have always been done first! i have a couple of ideas to improve the image without the mods. so i think i will keep the exhaust and suspension and sell on the wheels. looks like the loft will be more jam packed now :D
