Mallory park is a brilliant track for doing your first trackday, as its simple enough that within 1-2 laps you know the layout and bends, but not too easy. it really helps if you know your car here though, as there is a mid corner bump that can unsettle the car if your unsure of it.
i was lazy here, so have copy and pasted from the colt forum. for all the pics see here : might take a minute to load, but its worth it. some great pics

mine is a bit more aggresively styled than most colts but i think it suits it. i had some good comments, all the evo boys liked it. the sessions were only 15 mins, but thats plenty for standard brakes! toward the end i had no brakes left. the best thing was that we had a good convoy too, we had the race vento, a vr6 vento, golf gti, clio 182, the colt, ax gti, bmw 120i, 325i, and a mg zr160. all my mates agreed on a 60 limit for the way up there, which was fine untill on the motorway a chavved up corsa flew past :thumbd all you saw was 8 loud cars (plus the RS that was tagging along) shift into 3rd and rocket past. he looked shocked to say the least. A few cars tryed it on with the slower cars (e.g me and the golf getting picked on by 335d's and the like, but then the vento and zr took over

) biggest suprise was the ax, we fitted it with a 106 gti engine/box the night before we left, and it was immense! untill it showed its french heritage by blowing a gearbox on the way there.
found that the colt really needs more power! lol. handling wise i was let down by my tyres, as it was either put budgets on or not go. however, this made for some heroic lift off oversteer :rambo . i think with some good tyres and brakes i would off kept up better, as outright power wasnt too much of an issue as i could carry a bit more speed than some of the others. i think if i had maybe 140/150bhp i would of kept up. we also autotested a transit and came 3rd :thumbu the race vento was 2nd fastest car all weekend too :rambo
also discovered how important driving is, not the car. there was a middle aged bloke in a beaten up 1.5d 106 completely standard, who was keeping pace with 205 gti's etc because he was a absolute loonie. we were all screaming track day hero when he pulled in

3 wheels every corner, sideways entry to most corners. hero.
