Bearing in mind that the only expansion option is for the iPod then there aren't going to be masses of wires round the back, so hiding a iPod plug in port should be no problem round the back.
But just for tidyness and ease of access, I'd go down the glove box route.
The only problem with space comes when you have exansion boxes for TV, sat nav, engine diagnostics, about 5 billion amps, etc etc.
Had 3 Pioneer head units now, and would not go anywhere else. I guess you just get used to a particular brand.
Ooh, next time I see you Scott, I want you to have a go at setting up my audioscape right. I have no idea what half of the functions on my H/U do
