if the paintwork in the engine bay is matt black and not the body colour of the car then it is a mark 3.5 but if it is the same colour as the exterior then it is a mark 3

yeah it's a mk3.5 or as ford class it, a facelifted mk3.
i'd personally recomend the Gmax kit. never gone wrong on mine, handle well.
have heard of people having problems with them though. but in my experience mine have and still are serving me well
