I've been offered a decent amount of money for the xr2 and I've been wondering what I'll replace it should I accept. So I'm wondering if anyone who has owned one or driven them has any advice. |

I've owned 2 ![]() Brilliant cars - bit loud on motorway due to low gearing and a bit juicy but handling is spot on (eibachs & rear spacers make it awesome) and responds well to basic mods (K&N + Exhaust give around 170bhp) |

it won't be as fast but...... ![]() a manifold, sports or decat, cat back, cossie inlet, K&N, 10mm leads, cams and remap will put it around 200bhp/150lb.ft above minus cossie inlet and cams will be around 180bhp Would recommend a short shift kit, spacers, eibachs and parade tyres ![]() |

Or just buy a C2... ![]() They are rather capable and the higher insurance group is much less of a problem now they are older/worth less. |

I was waiting for you to pipe up Percy ![]() I don't know why but for some reason I like the mk6 these days. Maybe because its the next logical step up from a mk5 zs and that was my favorite car of the lot. Its not ford fanboyism I have a vw at the moment ![]() |

As you've owned a Dub as well as Ford I know you should have enough self respect not to consider a C2 ![]() I think you'd be better off keeping the XR, the ST is a good car but Old School rules ![]() |

The xr was great fun but I'm after a decent daily. As much as people want to hate on mk4 golfs they are brilliant cars, they are awfully soggy and heavy but they are good cars. Thats why I'm looking at mk6 fiestas. Its a great chassis, decent sized boot and an alright if not underpowered engine. |

Could you not punt on the Golf and with the money get another daily, then keep the XR aswell? |

ST's range from 50-100K depends - for £2.5k can get one with 70-80k |

What kind of mileage are they good for? I wouldn't buy with such high mileage myself. |

Duratecs are pretty good depends on maintenance/been thrashed/etc but 150k should be easily attainable. |

If the ST's poor fuel economy wasn't an issue we would have bought one for the money recently. I'm fairly sure I've driven one before and thought they handled well. Drove a Silver 05 C2 VTS last night actually and it was quite nippy, if lacking a bit of soul and build quality. Not bad for £1200 car on 80k, it's a no brainer as it's definitely has a good bang per buck value. The owner then took my missus EP3 out though and instantly admitted it to be on another level performance/build/ wise. Depends what the budget is. Do you want to stay Ford, etc. If you were looking at an ST, I would get one with all the trick bits that Adam mentioned they feel like they need, it doesn't make sense getting a standard one IMO. |

I've owned two St 150s. One had 40k on the clock. One had 50k on the clock. Both had full history. Both drank oil. Both drank fuel. Both ate tyres. Still like them though. My mum owns my second one and she is quite taken with it. I take it out occasionally. |
