I usually shift when I hit the limiter ![]() Zetecs usually run out of puff about 5500 rpm (i think) and thats when the most power is there too. So your shifting quite early really. The higher rpm you go to, the more engine speed you carry into the next gear, so you will effectively get more speed more quickly in the next gear. But with the 1.6, after about 5500rpm. But you dont want to be sitting in the same gear thinking 'i need to hit 7000rpm' if its going to take an age, because thats time and speed lost in the next gear. You wont do any damage to the engine reving it high, engines are designed to do that, and the limiter is there to stop it over-revving and things going wrong. Also, if you have a little search of the forum, this has been asked about 48,972 times lol |

Basically as danny said, 4000rpm is too low, factory figures for zetec say 5500rpm it stops pushing so go a little bit above so when you change gear you remain in the power band. I rev my focus to above 7200rpm so when I shift my next gear is still in the high rev range to keep the power on because in the low rev range its a town plodder lol. Just do some research where your power starts and finishes, also keeping an eye out for flat spots. |

Lol wtf!? 2500-3000 plodding about? Well, I plod at 1750 or so on gear changes, but I do hit 5500-6000 when I want to make chavs cry. |

You need to shift after you see the tacho go past 9000rpm ![]() Oh wait, you don't have a girly torqueless wonder machine ![]() On a serious note, I found between 4000 and 6000 (maybe a tad more) was the sweet spot for my old Fiesta. |

In my fiesta it was around 6.5k but it was cammed so not the same. The C2 is change when it hits the limiter. |

had the needle twatting the plastic on a couple of occasions in my si. but i found it used to bang nicely between gearchanges at about 5500 rpm (superchipped with single box exhaust) the more i think about it the more i miss the noises that dirty little money pit made ![]() |
