Thanks for quick reply - this is what i know so far the water pump to replace - parts and labour cash only £100 then it failed on things like hazards not working front indicator not working - due to husband breaking wire by the connector this morning Husband mention some corrosion on the steering column and some other corrosion underneath not sure where though sorry. Shell not too bad - one bad rusty wheel arch another two with just a bit. So its whether I would make money back if had it repaired - unless anybody would like it as is for the £200 scrap money I've been offered |

If the cambelt is being replaced with the waterpump, then its worth doing for that money. I don't think it will be for that price though. But the cambelt has to come off to change the water pump, so it should be changed anyway - unless its only recently been changed. What reason did the waterpump fail the MOT though? ![]() |

Sorry - Water pump was already making a terrible noise so we were going to get it fixed. Then decided to get MOT done too so we could sell her. |

Oh right, I see. So it basically failed on indicator and hazard lights? Did the corrosion fail the car at all or is that just something your husband mentioned? In all fairness, if you pay £280 for the repairs, depending on the condition of it, you might be able to sell it for £300-500, so you might be able to get some of your money back. If it is just the indicators thats failed the MOT, can you not get your hubby to fix them? Because I wouldn't pay £180 for that. |

Have just seen MOT report and it failed on some silly things like windscreen wipers not clear windscreen effectively and then to steering column movement between shaft and steering wheel front strut has excessive movement at upper attachment rear brake pipe excessive corrosion offside seat belt anchorage apparently has been modified which reduces original strength ( Ive owned the car for 9 years and this has never come up before!) and then there were advisory notice of whole vehicle chassis structure has slight corrosion. So what do you think? Hubby will be home soon and wants an answer from me tonight. To scrap or repair? I think its the thought of it being squashed up thats hurting. But I know I'm just being sentimental! |

Stand your ground and save it. Tell him he can folk out for a brand new car for you if he wants one that. Isn't rusty or needs any new parts. |

Thanks to everyone for there replies and support. Hubby phoned the scrap people and they offered £200 and they will collect it. So if anyone out there wants to buy it for the same (or a cheeky near offer!) please be in touch - quickly though. If it wasn't for the water pump needing to be done too I would have pushed for the other repairs to be done. (oh and the bit about offside seat belt anchorage was crossed off on the MOT failure report and they had handwritten next to it O/S sill rotten). It's a 5 door Ash Black, it was already up for sale in the other section, with pics. so I'm going to alter price on it now The car is driveable, started first turn of the key, and it did the 26 miles round trip to the MOT station and back no problem, didn't lose any water, just a lot of noise from the pump. Thanks to everyone J |
