Post subject: | How should i run my 2.0L |
Hello all its been about 2 years now ive been out of an si, but im back in one now as my daily drive/ run around and i have to say its been brilliant. I couldn't fault it However it feels a little bit sluggish compared to the 2.0l si's i have had previously so i think a 2.0l conversion is on the cards. My previous 2.0l conversions have all been about power, i.e induction kits, straight through exhausts, big injectors, but im now a bit older and wiser after all that and now all im after is a little bit more poke without the fuel economy suffering too badly or mechanical reliabilaity i just want a car i can use comfortably, daily. so with that in mind i want to run the 2.0l engine still on the 1.6 ecu, still on the standard si exhaust with the egr's and cat still in the only thing i was going to change really was the inlet manifold for the HO RS1800 one Rs 1800 throttle body and maf Will there be any problems running a 2.0l like this? has anybody got any other ways to run a 2.0l to fit what im after out of it? |

hi mate its not advisable to run a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec using a 1.6 ECU, the 1.6 ecu will be programmed to use less fuel, due to its obviously smaller capacity, running an engine lean can cause issues and if done for an extended priod will incur damage to the valves, pistons, piston rings, bore and combustion chamber, it will also cause pinking and an elevated heat level in the chamber due to the combustion wave not flowing as designed. Keep it safe and run it on the RS1800 or a 2.0 ecu, the mpg will be around 28-34mpg depending how you drive and how the condition of the engine is. the standard Si exhaust will be fine, smaller than what the 2.0 mondeo's use but this will create more torque, but it would certainly help to use a uprated 2.25 inch system (2" standard) and will improve the power closer to what the standard 2.0 makes (as the smaller fiesta exhaust lower it to around 130, down from 134bhp) |

Thanks for that advice mate i definitely wont be running it from the 1.6 ecu then in that case, what ecu would be best? do you recommend using an Rs1800 or a 2.0l ecu for this type of set up? my biggest worry is with mot emissions i dont really want mot problems even with a declared 2.0l engine i have known them to fail an mot anyone have any ideas how this can be avoided? |

Run a 2.0 ecu, it would be best. Engine shouldn't fail an MOT tbh. Don't see why if it's a decent engine with a working cat. |

yea the 2,0 ecus will suit best as obviously its a 2.0 engine, but the RS1800 has a near makes no differance the same fual map as the 2,0s, DEEP DESK DEWY are the 2,0 code names, CULT is the RS1800 one, but that is qite rare now as only Mreg onward RS1800's had it the 2,0 ecu can be found in any mk1 mondeo K-P reg (except the automatic) |

cheers guys i think i will play it safe then and use a 2.0l ecu. Which is the best to use out of DESK, DEEP, DEWY im sure i heard somewhere one of them alows the engine to rev better, but i could be wrong. ive had two 2.0L si's before, one ran on DEWY and one on DEEP and for some reason the DEEP car ran better might just be me tho can anyone shed any light on this? |

DEEP is supposed to be the better one for whatever reason. I run a dewy ecu and have no problems with it. Each of them will be fine though |

never heard of that, sounds stupid to me the one that ran better was more than likely due to the engine being in a better condition im sure you know but that will play such a big part of how well the engines health is, how quick it is and how long it will last, regardless of the mileage i have had 2 Si,s both at the time being a 1.6 my current one was far faster than my previous, best reason why is my current one has a full ford service history |
