What tools do you carry in your car? Simple question, as title says. Currently I have 2 full tool boxes, a jack, and even some copper brake pipe loitering in my boot. And I want to cut this down to minimal. I don't need the jack for a start, because I don't have a spare. But owning an old Ford has taught me, never go anywhere without any tools! So, whats the basic setup you carry? I was thinking... Spanners Sockets (small set) Screwdriver combo set thing Plyers Mole Grips Snips Duct Tape Cable Ties WD40 |

I used to carry my halfords tool kit and a few other bits and bobs like pliers, screwdrivers, grips, cable ties, tow rope and jump leads.. Cable ties are 100% needed. Tbh, I dont really carry anything around with my anymore, it all depends where im going though. If its local, short trips ect, normally nothing, but if im doing any longer distance stuff then i'll prepare and take a load of stuff unless I know my car is 100% sound and there are no problems, which I will always check my car over for before i do long distance journeys anyway. If I know theres a problem I will either sort it or take what I need to sort it when/if it breaks |

Insulation tape is there generally. I have a phillips screwdriver in the footwell which when I needed a screwdriver I needed a flathead. A robbed pair of scissors from the receptionist desk in a motorbike shop as she was ignoring me and I needed them for power steering pipe. Always got a bottle of powersteering fluid now Jump leads Some Jubilee clips as well at the moment. I just have all the crap I have left over from when i've done work and not bothered to put the tools back ![]() |

I wouldnt say its over the top at all, pretty much perfect. Im sure if you hunt around most modern day cars like bmw, mercs, range rover they would carry all of that. Just given myself an idea actually. Also might be worth carrying a warning triangle, red or orange glow sticks (I actually carry around glow sticks for emergency warning lighting if i break down) and a set of spare bulbs. All simple things that can in fact save your life |
