What do people think, has the MK3 fiesta done enough to be deemed a classic ford, when will it appear in Classic Ford Magazine? Do you think it even should be a classic? Thoughts and opinions please. |

it depends on peoples opinions. imo yes the rst and rs 1800 are. not so sure about si's though. people will remember the rs's in 10 years time but will the remember the si? its a sad thought but i dont think they will and its a shame becuase its a great car and i really want one. but look at how hard it find a decent one now. |

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIESTA-1-6-Si-GRE ... 443wt_1137 this one looks good! Unfortunately theres not a lot going for this car to make it a classic, Its not really special, The RST will proabably as with the Ecos and saph. but the rest are just like standard cars. some people will restore them like Mk1's etc. So they might be a little "classic" but I don't see people going out of there way to restore them unless they loved them already. |

yh it is sad that there aint many left. they wil become a classic soon one day. not many people will remeber them but there will be a few around which will make them classics. |

The Mk3 RST and RS1800 will definately. The Si, i'm afraid not - it wasn't higly regarded enough in it's day and the RST and RS1800 paid to that. I think it will take another few years before any Mk3 graces the pages of classic ford/retro ford and is deemed a true classic |

the mk2 aint a classic yet for "classic ford" so no, not yet. the mk3 is currently in its lost years between banger and classic. the mk2 is entering classic status, just compare the prices and quality of mk2 xr2s to mk3 xr2is. Classic ford readers where in uproar when they started featuring mk1 fiestas, most fail to realise that these cars came out in 1976! you see silly letters banging on about "a front wheel drive ford is not a classic" they also tend not to like the mk3 escort despite it being 30 years old. ![]() so no, the mk3 aint yet a classic to most. But for me the Frst and Xr2i are now classics, the rs1800 and Si currently not, why? both seem like unit shifting, money making cars at the end of the mk3's life. (yes i've owned two si's) |

Thanks for peoples input, it has been playing on my mind for ages. I realise that a base model MK3 wont really be deemed as a classic but i would hope that the Si would make it. I completely agree with the RS1800 and FRST becoming classics but the Si has that something special about it, it brings a smile to my face everytime i turn the key, when you drive around you know that you are part of an elite group as there arent many about anymore. It was the sports car for people on a tight budget, a teenagers Ferrari and still is. *takes deep breath* Did i mention i love my Si |

Although to some people it may not be a "Classic", in the eyes of insurance companies as long as the driver is over 25 and the car is 20 yrs or older it can be insured under their Classic Car Insurance Scheme. My XR2i G Reg is insured with Footman James under their Classic Car Scheme and my insurance Fully Comp is £199 a year ![]() |

its the only fiesta to bare an rs badge so why wont it be a classic, if it isnt yet then its only because its still too new as it went all the way to P reg (97 i think) so give it another 10years lol |

well said ben. in my eyes it's the best car i could ever have! it is my first car, yes, but i don't find myself buying another for a long time! unless i win the lottery of course ![]() but yes, all my love, affection and money will go into my baby until it is perfect... it is certainly a life time of suprises, but those suprises will always be remembered and i'm proud to be a part of the 'si' history. |

I think the whole MK3 range is a classic. Look at the iconic status of it as almost seemingly everyones first or second car. Looks wise it isn't eighties nineties or something that stands out from a certain era. My girlfriend is the only person I've ever met who hates the MK3, yet loves the MK4 (different headlights and different interior, otherwise pretty much the same). |

i consider cars as 'classics' when you don't see them every day on the road. i.e. 4 years ago when i bought my fsi, the roads were littered with mk3's now, i hardly ever see them....it's all banged out mk4's now |

rst and xr2i in my opinion are already classics, the si may well be one in the future but they never made the same impression on people as the xr2 and rst. even the rs1800 isnt as well remembered as the earlier mk3 fiestas. |
