Just thinking will they make a difference. As it is here in Sunny Oldham I do seem to get worse snow than a lot of places. Looking at getting a full set of steel wheels with tyres. So is it worth it, will it make a difference? If so which tyres are the best? |

Man up. It snows for 7/365 days. Just drive to the conditions and leave ten minutes earlier. |

I don't think it's worth it really! If you're worried, try a skid correction course for less the price than a set of tyres you'd rarely use! I've been on one, and a proper skidpan course, and it makes you more confident and teaches you a thing or two! Also interesting to see how FWD and RWD cope in the same conditions! I'm fine in snow, I just worry about other drivers hitting me so spend more time focusing on what's behind me, making sure their not to close. Infact due to it, I don't think I couldn't of saved Fi's car last year in the icy conditions! Imagine a stock 106 on 4 different 13" budget tyres with no tread, and cracking on the sidewalls there so old ![]() ![]() ![]() Bearing in mind even just 10mph can be deadly in the snow ![]() |

It more the deep snow I keep getting stuck in, I am fine driving, but I can't get going at times. Would also protect my alloys from all the grit/snow. Would probably have them on for 2 months of the year. Might be worth getting a cheap used set. |

Ive just got back from Germany they run winter tyres and normal tyres. Most people have 2 sets of wheels winter tyres on steels for obvious reasons. You see decent motors with steels made me chuckle. Its compulsory to have these during certain times of the year. They run a softer compound with loads of tread and some other differences im sure. I can tell you they make a big big difference i was shocked. With snow on the roads and -7 deg i was doing 100kmh (60mph) no problems on roads in england you dare to go over 10mph. A taxi driver shit me up big time i didnt know you could go that fast in the snow without spikes on the tyres. If you get snow quite a lot i would recommend them |
