OK im asking for everyone to vote in here :)

Obviously got my new toy but after doing research im stuck which way to go engine wise. my aim is 130bhp obviously with zetec in thats it done but things are putting me off. hence this post.

Pros and cons of both engines. READ BEFORE YOU VOTE :p

CVH:
PRO's
Keeps with the old school theme of the car
can obtain 125-135bhp from 45's (bike carbs etc) and cam etc (so approx 10 short of my zetec)
A lot easier to fit as its a case of change engine mount and its it
id need to spend a little more on mods i.e about £200 -£400 to obtain my target BHP above
lighter that the zetec
can keep my 4 speed box
ive been offered a standard xr2 engine cheap with carb etc already on so project will go ahead next weekend if i get this

CONS's
its got a little less bhp than the zetec
its prob gona be a little more tappy than zetec

zetec
PRO's

Will look tasty in engine bay
im more familiar with these engines
i know the condition on my zetec as ive owned it along time and rebuild it
More bhp than the cvh
got loads of spares for this engine, alternators, starters etc etc
reliability
CONS's
need to make an engine mount to fit
need to faff around with fuel pump and swirl pot in and fit them into the fuel tank
need to adapt loom to fit
heavier engine, so more front end weight.
doesnt keep to old school form.lol

so this is why im confused :)

votes and opinions wanted :)

p.s if i went cvh everything zetec i have will be up for sale.........again

zetec for me, just the fact you have more spares and your more familar with the engine, plus you've already rebuilt it so wont need to do that

zetec it.

if it was an xr2 shell id say keep it cvh tapper.

zetec all the way. it isnt "that" hard to fit one, specially compared to fitting one to a mk1 :P

Zetec for me aswell. Youv've got alot more spares for this, you know it really well as you've rebuilt it and also its more powerful. More front end weight over the driving wheels isn't always a bad thing either, more traction :chill:

CVH. I bet a cammed CVH will be quicker than the Zetec. Pick a cam for mid-torque rather than peak power. It'll go far quicker point to point than the wheezy Zetec and it's far less hassle.

130bhp from a N/A CVH will cost a bit firstly, ive got 1600cc one with ported head, CVH22 cam, zxr6 motorbike carbs, 4-1 manifold and think be lucky to make 125bhp.
So to complicate things what about RS turbo CVH 150-180bhp potential?
on ease CVH, but if power desire with more work zetec or RST

CVH's aren't that liable to break if maintained, but you know what, yeah they are old and useless

go all out, 1.9 bottom end for bags of torque :insanity:

cheers for all the advise.

Power wise im only after approx 130bhp as that will be plenty quick enough in something so small!

I think i should be able to hit that figure or close to it with cam & adjustable vernier, carbs, manifold, maybe a nice ported head on a cvh, obviously i would not need to do all that if i put my zetec in as its already above 130bhp! but with me i cant be dealing with the hassle of the fuel side of things. all ive read everywhere is gota cut the fuel tank or separate it to fit swirl pot etc. Welding the cvh mount with diffrent hole shape etc. when i compare that two CVH dumped straight in just seems like so much more hassle.

Its confusing the sh*t out of me.lol

I wouldn't go down the ZVH route, never appealed to me on the n/a side of things. If you look at the figures n/a produce its much the same as a zetec but with more work to get it there so that one is out off the question :)

I think becuase of the amount of work involved in fitting the zetec i couldn't be bothered with the hassle but seeing as the bhp is on target already i think i need to pull my finger out and just do it.lol

this is turning into an interesting topic tho :D

sorting the fuel tank should be easy?

got the si one still??? cut open the mk2 one, fit the internals of the si one.. weld it back up. done.

not exactly hard is it? :P

engine mounts arent hard either.

so slap the zetec in and be done with it you wuss :P
