Post subject:  Had an accident - update: it's gonna be fixed

Well, story goes - wednesday night i was on my way out down an A-road (50 limit) when the car 2 cars in front braked to turn off, the car in front of me braked and stopped, i also stopped and was stationary (hazzards light come on under heavy braking but these weren't set off). The black Ford mondeo behind didn't see me and ploughed into the back of me  he was probably doing about 25-30mph at this point. The driver of the car who hit me has admitted full liability and my base spec car is a 2007 (57 plate) Fiesta 1.25 Zetec Climate with the £2600 optional extra Wolf kit. My car has covered 11,746 miles

Damage to my Fiesta Wolf:

Tailgate pushed back, and dented on left hand side and won't open (has Ford privacy glass and ST spoiler bonded on as standard)

Left hand side

Image

Right hand side

Image

The rear bumper has come away on the left hand side and raised in the middle. The Wolf rear apron (£200 + shipping from Germany) is also cracked

Image
Image
Image
Image

The Wolf twin exhaust needs replacing - the left hand tip has been pushed back (£375 + shipping from Germany)

Image
Image

Where the boot has shifted in and to the left (passenger side) it has affected the rear 1/4 panel that wraps around under the tail light

Image
Image

The bottom corner of the passenger side tail light is chipped (needs a new light)

Where the boot has been shifted to the left the top of thew ST spoiler is sitting on top of the rear 1/4 panel

Good side:

Image

Bad side:

Image

And the panel gap on the roofline (where the rubber is) is wider nearer the boot on the passenger side as opposed to the good side

Good side:

Image

Bad side:

Image

The rear arch on the passenger side appears to be sitting out further (been bent out in the impact?)

And finally the passenger door has been shunted forwards and the top edge into the car slightly

Image
Image

The top of the door in the above pic should be level with the wing

Sorry for all the pics, but that is all the visible damage - i haven't been able to get in the boot/under the car. To summarise he appears to have hit me at an angle such that the rear has been pushed in and the passenger side of the vehicle shunted forwards and possibly twisted in slightly

So all in all i would just like your opinions as to whether this would be repaired or likely to be written off - i would imagine it's 50/50 myself but i have no idea,

Many thanks,
Martin

It all depends on the underlying damage really. The stuff you've shown us looks repairable (if a bit expensive, but if his insurance is paying it, it doesn't really matter), but if there's too much damage to the boot floor and chassis in general they may just write it off rather than getting it on the jig.

Let them take it and assess the damage before you get all flustered, and deal with it from there on. :)

It was taken away this morning - just wondered that was all - car is only worth about £5k anyway now (stupid economic crisis)

Just wanted peoples opinions that was all, i have a feeling it's 50/50 depending on how twisted it is

I would say that is quite possibly a write off, but it really depends on the damage to the floorpan in the boot. As you say its touch and go as to whether it will be repaired or written off.

Keep us updated on the results

wont be 50/50 mate, his fault. when your learning they teach you the 2 second rule, and when i asked why my instructor told me it was because you are the 'at blame' party if you go into the back of somebody.

my money is they'll write it off if its bent it enough to bugger up the door gaps. its easier to write it off than try and straighten it.

Thanks for your opinions happypaul, stunning and jam. Is worse than it looks intitially and i agree wholeheartedly with happypaul - even if it's out on a jig i still don't want it back, it will never be the same again and i don't know if i'd feel safe in it to be honest.

Thanks guys :)

My dad used to have a granada that had been rear ended and "put right" but the rear wheels were no longer completely parallel with the front ones so it went down the road at a slight angle!!

Was an absolute nightmare to drive!

Its probably better off being written off

Post subject:  Re: Had an accident - update: it's gonna be fixed

Well i've just heard from the repair centre and it's being fixed :hmm:

Apparently it's going in for paint monday and will be ready for collection on thursday - i'm a little suspect however as i can't see how they've got the Wolf parts from Germany in 7 days.

If it isn't right i will be going off the wall at them, time will tell . . .

Thanks

Martin

Post subject:  Re: Had an accident - update: it's gonna be fixed

Am I the only surprised that the door gaps have been affected
Boot being out of line, rear quarter a bit creased, boot floor a bit bent etc I can accept but for the door gaps to be affected I'd expect a LOT more damage in the first pics

Post subject:  Re: Had an accident - update: it's gonna be fixed

Thanks - apparently the boot floor and everything underneath is untouched, it's only cosmetic.

I have been re-assured by my soliciter that all new genuine Wolf and Ford parts are being put on the car and EVERYTHING bar the boot floor have been replaced

Wait till i pick it up now :)
