The Zetec S in my opinion.The 1.6 Zetec E hasnt ever really been fast.its nippy sure but i wouldnt call it fast. Well unless you put it next to my 1.8 non turbo escort van.Then the 1.6 Si is rapid lol Then again flipping milkfloats could beat my van

I think an Si with the usual mods would give the zetec-s a run for its money admitted the mk5 would probably have the edge but I think it would be so slim that its more driver dependant than anything else. |

mk5 zs engine has more torque as well as 11bhp more power. couple that with better brakes/suspension, newer engine/body and it's easy to see the clear winner when both in standard form. plus the fact that some ZS' are more than 110bhp+ from the factory.  Wouldn't be a huge difference though. just a noticible one. |

id say the si, the zetec s has only 10ish bhp more but is a hevier car, and when i had my 2i leenys si was more of a chalange than any of the zetec s i ever came across. to to be fair it's alot to do with the drive. |

Zetec-s will nail the 1.6Si i can remember winding one up round here, he thought mine was a 1.6. he soon realised it wasn't when i went past spinning through second

ive beat a few zs in my si and gave a few a run for their money like ppl say its mostly bout the driver

ZS is definitely faster. I've got one and it is noticably faster than my si. It pulls alot harder and revs better. The si is better from a standstill tho coz it goes further in first and second gear, whereas the zs goes no-where until you hit third gear, then it really goes! Quite a good comparison too coz my si's engine has done just under 30K and the zs has done just over 40k.

down to the driver really power to weight i imagine there both about the same the old mk1 certainly gave a ZS a scare to 40 odd

my brothers zs beats my si. not to much in it though considering the zs has roughly 15 bhp more but its probably has more weight to it. |

on paper the ZS is a better car, i do belive a well maintained Si is just as good tho. my 1st Si beat my mates mk6 zetecS in a straight line, and i had beaten mk5 ZS's too. however that car was on coilovers, and well maintained from new, so i think it varies alot, there isnt much in it tho

Its hit & miss with ZS's power standard ranges from 103-115bhp, although this wont make a massive difference but may just give it the edge over an Si either standard or modded. I dont think i've ever raced an Si in mine so unable to comment really, although my ZS felt so much more quicker than my old Si & more responsive throughout the rev range. Paul. |

My mate got 117.1bhp from his totally standard one at Gordons last year. They are quicker, no doubt about it. If both are in standard form the ZS is a quicker, better handling car. Do the same mods to each, and it'll still be quicker, although you can bring the Si up to scratch for handling with a few choice mods. It's bound to be a better handler, Ford had a fair few years inbetween to make improvements. |
