The problem is the police have to get evidence, not just 'those pikeys down the road did it' and sometimes even with an amount of evidence it will just get chucked out of court regardless ... the problem lies with the courts and the CPS (thats the Crown Prosecution Service) as the CPS make most of the decisions in custody. Without witnesses. fingerprints, cctv etc they cant do fuck all, and even with those sometimes it goes nowhere.
I know you all think im always just sticking up for the police but to be honest you say they dont care, they do but its the governements shitty laws that prevent them doing things.
I work in custody and i see soooo many people NFA'd (No Further Action) just because its 'one word against the other', or it 'wouldnt stand up in court because theres not enough evidence'. Some police officers try their friggin hardest and put themselves in danger, they get to custody and then the prisoner gets off scott free! How dya think that makes them feel? The officers get just as frustrated as you! There is a few regular prisoners that we have come in, one is going to kill someone very soon unless hes locked up, all the officers know this, but they are powerless because everytime he comes into custody his very good solicitor gets him off, and the courts give him non custodial punishments!!! The british legal system is a pile of shite!!
And as for the travellers, they make their lives outta this kinda thing, they know exactly how the legal system works and they know exactly what the police can and cant do, they are professionals. By the time the police do have enough evidence to get them to court they have given a false name and moved to the next city failing to turn up at court. We have had 10yr old traveller girls in custody before and even they know how to work the system, the right things to say, failing that they usually have a solicitor to get them off too.
Also maybe you should be spending your time writing to Mr Brown to put more officers on the street to deal with things like this! There arent enough police to deal with all the crime, and the officers that are there are being called to other things such as assaults and robberies and as sad as it is there is ALWAYS something going on that will be more important, blame the police if you like but all they are doing is their job, they have piles of crimes waiting to be looked at, hence PCSO's were brought it, im surprised one wasent sent out to see you.
So you say the police dont do anything, maybe you should join up and see how hard it is for yourselves!
