Well today i decided i should give my mondeo a bit of a service, as apart from the clutch antics ive been having so far she has treated me well.

with 117836 on the clock, 8000 being done by me, i thought i would treat her to

air filter £ 5
cabin filter £9
fuel filter £25
Oil filter £5
oil £30

now, its had full ford service history up until mid 2006 and 80000miles all done by the company that owned it ( the bloke i brought it from brought it from the company as he worked for them and had the car as a company car... so effectivly 1 owner before me ). he said he had given it a service but had no reciepts to prove. either way i wasnt tha bothered as it had most of the history before it.

I couldnt belive my eyes after seing the state of the filters

i mean, they dont look as if the pollen filter had ever been changed, and the air filter hadnt either. ok yes, i expected them to be dirty, but that dirty after 2 years is mad

they are pretty dirty! surprised it was able to breathe with the filter that clogged with dirt!

you should of got an aftermaret filter IMO :doh: but then depends on how long you'll be keeping the car.

the car should run a lot better now!?

couldnt be bothered with after market. more expense and its only a runaround.

today i cleaned the EGR as i have seen an improvement in response, MPG and a most of the black smoke disapearing on a few cars that have had them cleaned.

anyway, pictures for that in a bit.

I took a drive up2 crawley and back today, now, i normaly average 62mpg @ 65mph, but coming back today i got a whooping 70.6mpg @ 65mph

I cant belive the difference. its far smoother, more responsive, less smoke and more mpg.

I havnt had the chance to put my foot down much yet becasue of the clutch, but for a £75 ish outlay on parts, and 3 1/2 hours of my time im quite happy that i have gain 9mpg as most of my commute to work is at 60/65mph.

also, smells less with the aircon on, aircon works better without it being on recerculation too

i got about 42mpg on my 1.8td , that was a 180000miles tho, then got 40ish on veg oil
