Ive had my halfords 150 piece set for about 4 years now and use it every weekend, Ive never damaged a ratchet and the only bits that tend to break are the torx and allen key bits but lifetime warranty so just get them replaced. I have the older one which has a better selection of deep sockets and torx/allen key bits. There screw driver sets are good and are on offer free with 5l of oil on a regular basis. I also got a sealey cordless impact gun and is perfect for cars, never found a nut/bolt it wont budge.

Halfords tools are always on offer and for the price i dont think anything in that region will compare to the quality/warranty

Halfords professional tools are really good! Being an actual mechanic and having used snap on stuff, halfords arent actually that behind with their tools, i use their tools all the time, got a 150pc kit, perfect kit really! I use it daily and not really had any major problems. Also like other people said, screwdrivers, hammers ect are good too... you will slowly pick up tools you need as you go alone
